Minor League Players of the Day: Sammy Diaz and Junior Arias brought the Dayton Dragons’ offense to life with nearly identical batting lines. Each batter went 3-for-4 with a double, a homerun, a stolen base, 3 runs scored, and two RBI. Sammy Diaz also walked once.

AAA
Charlotte 8 – Louisville 6

Dioner Navarro was 2-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam. Neftali Soto was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Didi Gregorius was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Felix Perez had two hits in 5 at-bats, including a double.

Tim Gustafson allowed all 8 runs, 5 runs in the 1st, over 4.1 innings. He gave up 9 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 4. Travis Webb, Nick Christiani and Bill Bray pitched 3.2 shutout relief innings. For Bray, it was the second appearance of his rehab assignment. He’s thrown a shutout inning in each outing.

Pensacola was rained out. The game will be played as part of a doubleheader today.

Minor League Player of the Day: Redleg Nation Spotlight player, Tucker Barnhart reached base three times in four plate appearances, including his first homerun for AA Pensacola. Barnhart also had a double, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored.

Louisville 5 – Toldeo 3
Mike Costanzo was 2-for-2, both doubles, a pair of walks, an RBI and a run scored. Neftali Soto was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Nick Masset made a rehab start. He worked a perfect first inning, but was pulled with two outs in the second inning after allowing two base runners (and reaching his 25-pitch limit.) Todd Redmond followed and gave up a single that allowed the two Masset runners to score. Redmond went on to pitch the next 5.1 innings with an overall line of 1 run, 4 hits, 2 walks, and strikeouts. J.J. Hoover pitched a perfect 9th inning with two strikeouts for his 11th save of the year.

Minor League Player of the Day: Wirfin Obispo struck out 10 batters and allowed only 2 hits and 1 run on a solo homerun in his 6-inning start for Pensacola.

Todd Redmond threw 5 innings of 3-hit baseball, allowing 2 unearned runs, 1 walk, and striking out 4. J.J. Hoover tossed a perfect 9th inning with 2 strikouts.

Denis Phipps was 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homerun. Didi Gregorius was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pensacola 6 – Tennessee 1

Wirfin Obispo allowed just 2 hits and 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 10 batters. Wilkin De La Rosa and Justin Freeman pitched three perfect innings to preserve the win.

David Vidal was 2-for-5 with a homerun and two RBI. Josh Fellhauer was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a stolen base, and two RBI. Bryson Smith was 2-for-5 with a stolen base, a run scored and two RBI. And of course, Billy Hamilton stole two more bases, walked twice, and scored two runs.
