Minor League Pitchers of the Day: The Pensacola Blue Wahoos pitched a combined 11 shutout innings, where they scattered five hits and four walks while striking out eight. The team didn’t have any wild pitches, passed balls, or hit batters.
Minor League Hitter of the Day: Juan Silva reached base all 4 times at the plate with a walk, two singles, and a triple. He stole second base three times. Once after the walk and again after each single.
Louisville had the day off.
Pensacola 1 – Huntsville 0 in 11 innings
Josh Smith started and threw the first 6.1 shutout innings. He allowed just 4 hits, one walk, and struck out four. Jamie Walczak followed with 2.2 hitless innings, issuing two walks and striking out one. Drew Hayes and Trevor Bell each added a scoreless inning.
Leadoff hitter Ryan LaMarre (2-for-5) was the only Pensacola batter with more than one hit, collecting his second hit of the game while leading off the top of the 11th inning with a single. He was moved over to second base on a sac bunt before advancing to third base on a groundout. Just 90 feet away with two out, he scored on a wild pitch.
Shaun Ellis allowed just one unearned run, 2 hits, 3 walks, and struck out two over 4 innings. Joey Housey pitched a perfect inning of relief.
Juan Silva (3-for-3, BB, 3B) had half of the team’s six hits, reached base in all four trips to the plate, and scored twice. Silva also stole second base all three times that he was on first base, upping his season total to 29. Nine of those 29 swipes have come in his last nine games.

Minor League Player of the Day: 2013 4th round draft pick Ben Lively pitched 3 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk while striking out three. Lively is yet to allowed an earned run in his 5 professional starts, covering 15 innings. He’s walked 4 and struck out 21 batters.
Louisville had the day off for their All-Star break.
In the AAA All-Star game, Billy Hamilton led off the game with a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on another groundout.
Greg Reynolds started for the International League All-Stars and was credited with the win despite allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in his one inning of work.
Pensacola had the day off for their All-Star break.
The Southern League All-Star game saw the South Division 1-hit the North Division. Tim Crabbe pitched a scoreless 5th inning, allowing the North Division’s only hit of the game. Shaun Ellis pitched the scoreless 6th inning, walking one and striking out one.
Visalia 4 – Bakersfield 0
Jon Moscot (1-13, 4.96 ERA) allowed 3 runs over 6 innings on 7 hits and a walk. He struck out six. Moscot would seem to be a perfect example of why you cannot use W-L record to evaluate a pitcher. In 101.2 innings, he has allowed 103 hits, just 34 walks, and struck out 103 (more than a batter an inning.)
Ryan Wright (2-for-4) had half of Bakersfield’s four hits.
Beloit 4 – Dayton 2
Sal Romano allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits over 5 innings. He also walked 5, threw a wild pitch, and struck out 5 batters. Alejandro Chacin followed with 3 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3.
Jesse Winker (2-for-3, BB, 2B, HR) supplied the Dragons offense again with a 2-run homerun in the 9th inning. Joe Hudson (2-for-4) also had a pair of hits.

Minor League Players of the Day:
— For Dayton, Seth Mejias-Brean was a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI.
— For Pensacola, Ryan LaMarre was 2-for-3 with a sac fly, a run scoring double, and a 9th-inning homerum.
Making his first start since June 25th, Armando Galarraga threw six shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2. Kanekoa Texeira pitched two perfect innings in relief, striking out two. Pedro Villarreal pitched a perfect 9th inning.
According to the Bats Media Relations department, Billy Hamilton’s leadoff walk in the first inning was the Bats first walk in the past 4 games (38 innings.) The team would go on to walk 8 times in the game. In addition to all the free passes, the Louisville offense cranked out 12 runs on 12 hits. Felix Perez (2-for-4, BB, 2B, HR) and Nevin Ashley (2-for-4, BB, HR) each hit 3-run homeruns. Denis Phipps had three hits, including a double, scored three times and knocked in two runs.
Defensively, Louisville hasn’t committed an error in their last 8 games, a stretch of 70 innings.
Ryan LaMarre’s sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning plated Redleg Nation Spotlight Player, Tucker Barnhart, giving the Blue Wahoos an early 1-0 lead. Down 3-1 in the 4th inning, Barnhart hit a 1-out bomb to right field, cutting the deficit to 1 run. Later that same inning, Travis Mattair came around to score on a LaMarre double to tie the game.
Fast forward to the 9th inning, game still knotted at three runs each. With Travis Mattair aboard again, Ryan LaMarre hit a game deciding home run. Pensacola reliever Trevor Bell struck out two in the bottom of the 9th for the save. Since joining Pensacola on June 9th, Bell hasn’t allowed a run in 13.1 innings. His line includes 6 hits, 4 walks, and 16 strikeouts.
Shaun Ellis started and allowed 3 runs over 3 innings. Chris Manno hit a batter but didn’t allow a hit or a walk over three shutout relief innings. Lee Hyde was credited with the win after retiring all 4 batters that he faced.

Chad Rogers’ AAA debut qualified as a quality start. He allowed 3 runs over 6 innings on 8 hits and 2 walks, while striking out just 1 batter.

Shaun Ellis (3-1, 3.21 ERA) allowed just 1 unearned run, 1 hit and 1 walk over 7 innings. Ellis struck out 5 batters. Josh Ravin and Trevor Bell each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Minor League Player of the Day: Lee Hyde pitched in both games of a double header, combining for 3 shutout innings. Hyde picked up a hold with one inning of perfect relief in game 1. He earned a two inning save in pitching the final two innings of game 2.
It was a rough night in Louisville for starting pitcher Daniel Corcino. In 4.2 innings, he allowed 5 runs, 10 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3. In his first game back from suspension, Jose Arredondo allowed 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 1.2 innings. Corky Miller pitched a perfect 8th AND 9th innings to save the bullpen. It’s his second relief appearance of the year.
Emmanuel Burriss (4-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) had four of the Bats 10 hits. Denis Phipps and Kristopher Negron had two hits each.
