Minor League Player of the Day: Jon Moscot delivered on multiple fronts last night. First, he tossed 7 shutout innings, scattering four hits, walking one and striking out five. He helped himself at the plate with a 1-for-2 night. The hit was a triple, and he scored one of the team’s two runs.

AAA
Indianapolis 9 – Louisville 1

Chad Reineke allowed 4 runs, 8 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2 over 5 innings. Jose Arredondo faced 7 batters: six of them reached base and four of those scored.

Billy Hamilton and Denis Phipps had 6 of the Bats 8 hits. Hamilton was 3-for-5, all singles, with his 67th stolen base. Phipps was 3-for-4 with a solo homerun in the 4th inning.

AA
Pensacola 2 – Jacksonville 0

Jon Moscot allowed just 4 hits, a walk and struck out 5 over 7 shutout innings. Moscot also hit a triple and scored a run. Lee Hyde and Trevor Bell each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Devin Lohman (2-for-4, R, RBI) and Mike Costanzo (2-for-3, BB) accounted for half of the Pensacola hits.

Game 1: Syracuse 3 – Louisville 1

Jonathan Broxton started and pitched one inning in his first rehab appearance. It went a little something like this: single, single, single. Then, bases loaded popout, strikeout, strikeout.

Kevin Whelan allowed 2 runs to score in the 2nd inning. Daniel Corcino, the game’s scheduled starter, pitched the final five innings. (Minor league double headers are 7 innings each game.) Corcino surrendered a homerun to the first batter he faced, then retired 15 of the remaining 17. Corcino (5ip, 3 hits, 1 run) didn’t walk a batter and struck out 4.

Corcino also collected one of the team’s three hits. Billy Hamilton had the other two hits, including his 6th homerun of the season. His 6th homerun this year comes in 390 at-bats. Prior to 2013, Hamilton hit 7 homeruns in 1511 at-bats.

Game 2: Louisville 3 – Syracuse 0

Yohan Pino (5.2ip, 3 hits, 1 walk, 3 K) held the opponent scoreless for his 2nd consecutive start. Pino hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in a game since June 28th. Jose Diaz picked up his 8th save of the season by striking out two over the last 1.1 innings of the game.

Billy Hamilton had another hit and stole his 64th base of the year. Kristopher Negron hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning. Felix Perez had an RBI double in the 6th inning and later scored.

AA
Mobile 4 – Pensacola 3

Josh Smith allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8 over 5.2 innings.

Corey Wimberly, Yorman Rodriguez, and Donald Lutz had two hits each. Redleg Nation Spotlight Player Tucker Barnhart reached base twice, walking once and hitting a two-run RBI single in the 6th to tie the game at 3-3.

Barnhart also erased two runners from the basepaths in the game. In the 7th inning, he picked Ender Inciarte off of first base. In the 9th inning, he threw Inciarte out again, this time trying to swipe 2nd base. Inciarte did have one successful steal in the game, and now has 35 SB in 41 attempts.

Billy Hamilton went 2 for 5 with a 2B and 2 SB (63). Mike Hessman went 2 for 4 with a 2B. Ryan Ludwick went 1 for 3 with a 2B. Neftali Soto doubled.

Chad Rogers got the win as he went 5.1 IP and allowed 1 R, 0 ER, on 6 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Jose Diaz picked up his 7th save while allowing 1 ER over 1.1 IP of relief.

Pensacola 2 – Mobile 0

Ray Chang went 2 for 3 with a 2B. Yorman Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a HR. Theo Bowe went 2 for 4 with a SB. Daniel Renken doubled.

Daniel Renken got the win as he went 6 IP and allowed 0 R on 3 H and 1 BB with 6 K. Lee Hyde added 2 IP scoreless relief. Trevor Bell picked up his 9th save tossing a scoreless 9th inning.

Games Played on 7/11/2013

Minor League Player of the Day: Jesse Winker has had only one hit on each of the past two days, but they have both been big hits. On Wednesday, Winker was the 4th player to bat in the 1st inning and hit a grand slam. Yesterday, Winker batted 3rd and hit a 3-run homerun in the 1st inning.

Winker finished Thursday 1-for-3 with the homerun, two walks, two runs scored and a sac fly.

AAA
Louisville 3 – Indianapolis 2

The Bats and the Pirates AAA farm team were scoreless until the top of the 7th inning. Daniel Corcino allowed the only two Indians runs on a 2-run homerun to Andrew Lambo. It was a nice bounceback start for Corcino, who allowed just the 2 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks over 7 innings.

Neftali Soto (2-for-4, 2B) hit a 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 2-2. Denis Phipps (2-for-3, BB) led off the bottom of the 9th inning with a single, and later scored the winning run on Kristopher Negron’s pinch-hit walk off single.

Zach Duke pitched a scoreless 8th inning. Duke is yet to allow a run in his 11.1 innings with the Bats. He has walked two and struck out 12. Kevin Wheelan walked one batter and struck out three in his scoreless 9th inning of work.

AA
Pensacola 7 – Montgomery 2

Ryan LaMarre hit a 3-run homerun in the 4th inning to give the Blue Wahoos all the runs they would need. Travis Mattair (3-for-4, BB, R) had 3 hits for the second day in a row. Donald Lutz doubled twice and scored twice. Redleg Nation Spotlight Player, Tucker Barnhart had two hits and two RBI. Corey Wimberly (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) added a solo homerun in the 9th inning.

Tim Crabbe (4-7, 3.41 ERA) pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing just 6 hits, walking no one and striking out 4. Josh Ravin and Loek Van Mil each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
