Minor League Player of the Day: Amir Garrett kicked off the Rookie League season with a solid start for the Billing Mustangs. Garrett allowed just 1 unearned run on 3 hits and one walk in his 5-inning start while striking out 6 batters. This was Garrett’s third start in the Pioneer League, dating back to last season, and he is yet to allow an earned run at that level.
Armando Galarraga (5-5, 3.05 ERA) allowed both runs over 6 innings on 8 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batter while striking out 3. Logan Ondrusek pitched the final two shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2.
Neftali Soto (2-for-4) collected two of the Bats five hits, extending his hitting streak to 6 games. Jason Donald had a double, a walk and scored a run in four plate appearances. Billy Hamilton led off the game with a single, stole second base, but then was picked off second to cut down the Louisville threat. He later drove in the lone Bats run on a groundout.
Ryan Dennick (3-8, 3.23 ERA) threw his third straight quality start. Dennick allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and one walk over 6 innings, while striking out 5.
The Blue Wahoos offense only had 3 hits and 3 walks. Theo Bowe’s solo homerun in the 3rd inning provided the only Pensacola run. Yorman Rodriguez reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk.
