With the 2013 minor league seasons wrapped up, let’s look at the top offensive performances of the Reds minor league prospects. The data below is from baseball-reference.com. The table summarizes the top 25 Reds minor league performers as ranked by OPS plus 5 additional players worth noting. The admittedly arbitrary cutoff that I used was […]

Most of this was recently posted on Lance McAlister’s blog (I’ve added some numbers and some of Lance’s numbers might be a bit off b/c of the delay in posting this): Louisville Bats/International League rankings BA .249 (13th of 14) Runs 377 (14th) OBP .313 (13th) SLG .370 (13th) OPS .683 (14th) BB 264 (12th) […]

Minor League Player of the Day: 23 year old, Steve Selsky, was 2-4 with 2 homers. Selsky was the 33rd round pick in 2011 and started the year at Pensacola, but struggled. Since being sent back to Bakersfield (where he finished 2012), he’s hitting .246/.338/.456/.795. AAA Toledo 6 – Louisville 0 DH Konrad Smith went […]

Minor League Player of the Day: Marquez Smith (Bakersfield Blaze) was a perfect 4-4 at the dish with 2 singles, a double, a homerun, 2 runs scored, and 5 runs batted in.  The homerun was his 6th of the season, a 2-run shot in the 1st inning. AAA Toledo 3 – Louisville 2 Henry Rodriguez […]

Games Played on 5/30/2013 Minor League Player of the Day: There were solid starting pitcher performances in the Reds organization yesterday, but the best came from Robert Stephenson. Minor League Player of the Day: Mike Hessman hit a homerun for the third straight day. On Wednesday, Hessman was 3-for-3 with the homerun, a walk and 3 RBI.

AAA
Louisville 10 – Columbus 7

Louisville scored at least once in each of the first 6 innings and never reliquinshed the lead. The scoring outburst included four solo homeruns off the bats of Josh Fellhuaer, Nevin Ashley, Konrad Schmidt, and Mike Hessman.

Seven of the Louisville runs, and all the homeruns, came at the expense of pitching prospect Trevor Bauer. Bauer was the prospect that went to Cleveland from Arizona in the 3-team trade that netted Cincinnati Shin-Soo Choo. It’s the third straight rough start for Bauer, who has seen his ERA mushroom from 2.55 to 5.05.

Hessman was a perfect 3-for-3 with the homerun, a walk and 3 RBI. That’s three straight games with a homerun and four in his past five games, pushing his May slash line up to .354/.452/.709. Fellhauer is also having a strong May (.333/.403/.544). In addition to his second homerun in two days, Fellhauer had a single, two walks, and two runs scored. Billy Hamilton singled and walked in five plate appearances, stole two bases, was caught once, and scored one run.

Armando Galarraga (3-3, 2.94 ERA) held the Clippers scoreless and limited to three hits until the 5th inning. A fielding error by Henry Rodriguez to the first batter of the 5th started a long inning for Galarraga. He finished the inning with a game line of 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 4 walks and 3 strikeouts over 5 innings.

Yohan Pino (1-2, 5 SV, 2.13 ERA) bounced back from a rough outing on May 27th to pitch the final two shutout innings.
