The Cincinnati Reds, the baseball team we cheer for, is still playing. The two teams in New York City can’t say that, including the one with a payroll over $200 million. The two teams in Chicago can’t say that. They both finished in last place. Last year’s World Series champion can’t say that. Ten games […]
After adding in the three sell-out crowds from this weekend, the Cincinnati Reds can rightly celebrate a large jump in home attendance for the 2013 season. In just 80 home dates (remember the Reds had to give away one of their home games to San Francisco), nearly 2.5 million fans passed through the gates at […]

It is the final game of the season. The game means nothing. I suppose the goal today is to keep players fresh, get some young guys a shot, and escape the game injury-free. It would be nice to finish the game with a win while the Reds are at it. Discuss the game here Reds […]
Joey Votto has reached base 316 times this year. According to Fangraphs, there have been 16,288 major league players since 1871. 22 of them have had at least one season where they reached base more than Joey Votto has this year. Twenty-two. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Two games remain in the regular season. The Reds must now win both to host the Wild Card game on Tuesday. The path ahead is simple. The Reds and Pirates are on the verge of playing one another four times over the next five days. The team that wins two of the first three will get the luxury of hosting the fourth (and most important game) at home. So a case can be made that these […]
As the Cincinnati Reds enter their final regular season series of 2013, the only thing left to decide for the Redlegs is where the Wild Card game will be played. Lose the series, and the team will make a day trip to Pittsburgh. Win the series, and they can sleep at home a couple of nights, playing the Wild Card round at Great American Ballpark.
These two teams just faced each other last weekend. Steve wrote a great preview on that series and covered all of Pittsburgh’s offensive and bullpen notes. This weekend’s series promises some great starting pitcher matchups.
|A.J. Burnett (R)||36||183||10.0||3.2||10.6||3.39||2.76||2.91||56.6|
|Homer Bailey (R)||27||204||8.6||2.2||10.9||3.40||3.19||3.26||45.9|
Tonight’s game is a rematch of last Saturday’s game. It was the only game the Reds lost that weekend. Each starting pitcher surrendered two earned runs, though Bailey was also on the mound for two unearned runs, which ended up being the difference in the game.
In three starts against Cincinnati this year, Burnett has a 3.38 ERA in 18.2 innings. He walked eight while striking out 28. Bailey has also faced the Pirates three times this season. He has a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings, while walking just 5 and striking out 23.
