The smoking hot Cincinnati Reds (5-18) will put their massive two game win streak on the line tonight at 6:40 PM against the Atlanta Braves (12-10). The Reds won a wild game last evening, beating the Braves 9-7 in 12 innings on a Scooter Gennett walk-off home run. Tyler Mahle took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, and the Reds lead 5-0 late. However, a Gennett error in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs allowed the Braves to tie the game.

Thanks for posting! I got caught up at work today and didn’t get a chance to add anything else.

  2. Wayne nabors

Pretty sure gennett wasn’t charged an error in 9th,but he should have

  3. B-town Fan

You know whats crazy, the Reds, have been awful, I mean god awful, but the Reds are only 4 games behind the Nationals in the loss column and they are probably gone win the East. The Reds young starting pitching is gonna keep improving all season and the bullpen should get better too. So the sky isn’t falling, there’s a ray of sunshine out there somewhere, can’t quite see it just yet, almost, the clouds are thinning.

    • james garrett

I agree about the pitching but unless we do something about the offense we will continue to struggle. The team has to be good with the product they have or they would have filled the holes at short and in center.I am good as long as the young guys get to play.Blandino is better then the two vets they broke camp with and should play every day until Suarez returns. He should stay up here and get some time as short and second and third.Ervin needs some time against lefties.

  4. docproctor

Probably the first time all season that I don’t have a beef with the lineup.

    • Wayne nabors

Except for pitcher spot,Finnegan is not a starter

  5. sezwhom

Probably just me but I wound’t complain if Blandino batted 1st or 2nd. He’s been making contact lately.

  6. Matthew Habel

Acuna getting the start for ATL. That should be interesting

  7. Hanawi

Scooter becoming unplayable in the field.

  8. seat101

    Station to station baseball.

We need us some big hit. Or at least a ball out of the infield

  9. Darrin

Duvall has been dreadful for quite some time now.

  10. Grand Salami

Scooter cost a run and then Duvall cost one with the bat. There is no reason he has ‘earned’ the defacto 5 spot in this lineup. Swapping he and Sheb is a woulda shoulda coulda

  11. J

Is there a law that says a guy with power isn’t allowed to hit 7th?

  12. J

Votto has always had a nasty habit of fielding ground balls headed straight for the second baseman. I don’t understand why he can’t train himself to stop doing it.

  13. Jack

I missed first few innings. Finnegan bad or ok? Scooter have another error?

    • J

Scooter had to throw the ball, so yes he has another error.

Finnegan has been so-so. He’s been victimized by bad fielding, bloop hits, and bad ball/strike calls, but he’s also fallen behind a lot and given up some hard hits and hard outs. Also made some very nice pitches in beteeen all that other stuff.

  14. seat101

Another multi hit game for steely eyed missle man

  15. Preach

Nice breaking ball to end the inning. Looking at the positives!

  16. Preach

Do the Jim Beam commercials during the game take on another meaning this season to anyone but me?

  17. docproctor

Reds have hit the ball hard all evening. Hope some more start to land where a fielder isn’t.

  18. docproctor

Inciarte gets great jumps in CF.

    • Jack

He is also good at the plate. Wouldn’t it be nice .

  19. docproctor

Winker on base three times already tonight. They better never sit him again.

  20. CI3J

What’s up with the stadium lights? I’ve noticed whenever they hit a homerun or win, the lights flash or blink on/off. Is that new this year?

  21. VaRedsFan

Thames to the 10 day DL.
    Reds pitchers everywhere rejoice.
    Face them May 1/2

  22. CI3J

Yeesh, Duvall was out by about 1000 miles. Billy Hamilton he’s not.

    • CI3J

….Or maybe not! But the ball did beat him there by a long ways.

  23. docproctor

Wow! Great slide, great challenge. Tie game!

  24. VaRedsFan

Acuna got called up and is starting?
I didn’t think that was allowed.
Aren’t you supposed to ride the pine and play once a week?

  25. Preach

Good job by Brice. Time to play add on.

    • seat101

All right, I’ll bite… What is the subliminal message you’re seeing in the Jim Beam ads?😄

      • Preach

Skip the pop, skip the beer, skip the wine and go straight to the whiskey. It’s that kinda year……

  26. bouwills

I give Finnegan a B- on the start. only 5 innings & 7 hits but he gave up only 1 walk & 2 ER. Something maybe he can build on.

  27. seat101

Jesse Winker must’ve learned that bad word from Brian Price.

  28. Jack

Never noticed before but I see Pennington got dat dudes number this year.

  29. VaRedsFan

Schebler needs to go to left field here.

  30. Preach

That skip off the mound messed him up

  31. VaRedsFan

Scheb hit that ball 107.4 mph!!!
    Scalded… I think they say

    • VaRedsFan

His double in the 5th was 107.5, and his lineout in the 2nd was 110.1!!!

  32. J

There’s no reason for Schebler to hit any lower than 5th for the rest of the year unless he goes into a massive slump.

    • CI3J

Agree. Schebler is part of the future for this team. He and Winker should man the outfield corners for the next 5 years. Schebler will be 32 by then, which means Cincinnati would have gotten his prime years, which for him should be pretty darn good.

  33. docproctor

Hamilton looked awful as a PH–but hope he comes in the game as a defensive replacement in a one-run game.

  34. VaRedsFan

Sending Billy up there to bat RH’d is not smart.
    Is Mez that bad off?

    • Jazzmanbbfan

Radio announcers are speculating he must be.

  35. Indy Red Man

Well I like our lineup alot better with Schebler in CF, but you still can’t hide Billy enough

  36. Eddiek957

Did blandino start off 1 for 17. The kid has been hitting lately. So has Jose

  37. Preach

It sure is nice having Billy to come in late during a 1 run game

  38. J

Why in earth is BH pinch hitting there? Let Ervin hit and put BH in defensively. For that matter, let Mahle hit.

  39. Jack

That was a filthy pitch by Shackelford

  40. VaRedsFan

We will get Winkler vs. Winker this inning.

      • Indy Red Man

What? I love him on HBO’s new show Barry!!

      • J

I was at the interview he did for the BUILD series. Sarah Goldberg was there too. It’s available online.

      • Indy Red Man

Thats the blonde girl I guess? Her character is really a mean little narcissist….hope she gets caught in the crossfire:) Fonzie is the man….forgot about him to tell you the truth. Haven’t seen him in anything in years.

  41. J

Now that it’s tied, I ask again why you’re pinch hitting BH with runners on base, a lefty on the mound, and Ervin on the bench.

    • Jack

I’m sitting here with this confused look on my face as well. Let’s pinch hit the worst hitter in the league. I would have, sent the bat boy up there if possible.

  42. Indy Red Man

Maybe another walk-off tonite but the pitching is worn down from last night so better to end it asap!

I knew the Reds wouldn’t make any big moves in the offseason, but I thought Dick Williams could atleast go out and get a lock down reliever to help Iggy. Hughes and Hernandez might be a step up from Ohlendorf but they’re not elite arms. They saw last year that Peralta and Lorenzen were shaky at times. Go out and get 1 strong arm! One guy that could possibly close if they dealt Iggy mid-season. Was that too much to ask? To do something instead of nothing! You play the Indians, Stros, Yankees, or Brewers then its a 6-7 inning game because if you’re down then the game is over.

  43. Indy Red Man

    Shackelford? Nothing but rockets.

  44. J

In 2017/2018, Ervin is 8 for 21 against lefties. So let’s have BH pinch hit instead of him, by all means.

    • VaRedsFan

Yeah…it was all kind of bad. called that one when it happened. Ervin is much more confident vs leftys…IMO

  45. Indy Red Man

Even a fellow financial bottom feeder like Oakland has these guys in the bullpen:

    Blake Treinen 1.50 era
    Ryan Buchter 1.74 era
    Santiago Casilla 2.00
    Yusmeiro Petit 2.51

    Ryan Dull career 3.56 era

Any of those guys are much better then what we have besides Iggy.

    • Indy Red Man

Peralta is pretty good….take that back. I still consider Garrett a starter.

  46. VaRedsFan

Not much chance with the JV bullpen tonight (other than Brice)

  47. D Ray White

Why are Pennington and Gosselin on this roster? Below replacement level 4A bums taking playing time from prospects who might actually help the team.

  48. J

Bright side: that should be the last bad play Pennington makes in a Reds uniform.

    • Indy Red Man

Blandino is a 1st round pick and outplayed the scrub in spring training to boot! I don’t understand why Penny made the team over him to begin with?

  49. VaRedsFan

The Braves have what the Reds seem to lack. They never say die, and always have plenty of comeback wins in late innings

    • Indy Red Man

They have a much better pen too. Winkler, MInter, and Viscaino

  50. J

This was one of the worst jobs of managing I can recall. And I’ve seen a lot of bad managing.

  51. Chad Dotson

If you’re still here, check out 700 WLW in Cincinnati tonight at 10:35. I’m going to be on Extra Innings!

      • Chad Dotson

I’m worried that I’ll have to ANSWER tough questions. haha

  52. cfd3000

Frustrating loss. Gennett is iffy at best (though, sadly, last night’s two homer game will earn him plenty more starts), Duvall looks awful (nice slide though), and some really questionable managerial choices. BHam instead of Ervin? Really? Shackelford for a second inning? Really? And Schebler and Tucker buried too low in the lineup. Votto and Winker on base six times combined but the only runs they scored were on Votto’s home run. That’s got to change. Bases loaded no one out in the first but no runs? Got to change. Can’t wait for Suarez and Senzel. And Blandino should stay when Pennington and Gosselin leave.

  53. Grand Salami

Riggleman over managed this one. He said he makes gut calls on pulling pitchers and then intimates he planned to pitch 4 guys.

The double switch to put in such a downgrade at SS after the lead was lost didn’t go well, predictably so.
