We’re a week into the Minor League full season team’s schedule. The Major League Reds can’t seem to win a game these days. Let’s see how their minor league teams are faring thus far.

AAA Louisville Bats

The Bats had a 3 – 3 record and in 3rd out of 4 in the International League West.

International League hitters are hitting .237/.321/.345/.666.

IF Nick Senzel is hitting just .190/.227/.238/.465 through his first five games. He played 2B his first four games and then was moved over to 3B after Eugenio Suarez’s thumb injury. It will be interesting to see if the Reds call him up this weekend after securing his services for another season, or leave him down at AAA for a bit longer to see him get some success at that level before bringing him up to the big league club.

OF Sebastian Elizalde, .313/.313/.563/.875, and OF Rosell Herrera, .267/.353/.467/.820, are off to hot starts for the Bats. OF Steve Selsky was signed as a Minor League free agent and has joined the Bats.

International League pitchers have a 3.24 ERA.

RH SP Bob Stephenson, 3.65 ERA, followed up a sketchy first start with a gem last night by tossing 7 IP allowing 1 R, 0 ER, on 3 H, 3 BB, with 10 SO. LH SP Justin Nicolino, 1.80 ERA, had a nice first start for the Bats after the 26 year old was acquired off waivers from the Marlins. RH SP Jose Lopez (3.60 ERA) and RH SP Jackson Stephens (3.60 ERA) both had nice first starts as well. RH RP Domingo Tapia has joined the club from the Pensacola team.

AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos

The Blue Wahoos had a 3 – 3 record and are 2nd out of 5 in the Southern League South

SS Luis Gonzalez, .375/.412/.625/1.037, is hitting very well to begin the season. OF T.J. Friedl, .167/.500/.417/.917, is getting on base often for the Tortugas thus far. 1. I am sure Senzel is going to be better than Blandino, but there is probably a good argument to leaving him in AAA a little longer. There is no reason to bring him up to play when he is struggling at AAA then return him to AAA when Suarez comes back. If Suarez is out for longer than the estimated 6 weeks or Senzel starts destroying AAA piching I would rather let Blandino get some experience

  2. Thanks for the farm update and no pitchers are injured………..yet.

  3. The depressing part of these updates is when you look at the names and realize there is a decent probability that the starting CF/RF/SS on “The Next Good Reds Team™” might not even be in AAA.

  4. I apologize for the question if I have missed something, but what is going on with Hunter Greene?

    • He got his first start for the Dayton Dragons on Monday,04/09, and went 3 IP allowing 2 R on 5 H and 0 BB with 8 SO. He’ll take the mound again today, 04/14, in the second game of a double header with hopes of lowering his 6.00 ERA and 1.67 WHIP.
