Last of four games between the Reds (67-91) and the Cardinals (82-76.) Can’t wrap up the series any better than this reader on last night’s Game Thread:

sdTO ALL THE REDS WHO’VE CLINCHED BEFORE

This popped up on my Facebook memories feed today. My nephew drew it. It reminds me of the collection of photographs still stuck to his bedroom wall– a slow slideshow, Academy Awards-Dead-People-Montage-Style, of Reds who have exited Stage Trade Deadline. (“Hey look, there’s Chapman.” “Hey look, there’s Chris Heisey.” “Hey look, there’s…”)

It hurts. It’s not so much that we missed the players, individually; we miss, instead, what they did together.

Shocked, SHOCKED. Actually I am, a bit, in the sense that this number isn’t higher.

Also Chris Welsh hereby invites you to think about his underwear.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is my final series of Game Threads in 2016, and I can’t thank you enough for all your kind comments, Twitter follows, and Facebook/Snapchat hit-ups. I truly appreciate your patience with the new girl… especially you, editors. Great to meet everyone here at Redleg Nation, and I’ll (hopefully) see you next year.

Next year. Has a nice ring to it.

  1. I was just curious if someone would go back and determine the W-L records for each Game Thread writer and if any them has a better record than Strailey?

  2. Love that drawing.

I wish I could draw so well, actually.

  3. Peraza should probably be told to stop trying to steal bases… he’s pretty terrible at it.

    • In all fairness, it was a pitch out and Molina. That said he will get better. Billy was thrown out a lot his 1st year, until he learned the ins and outs of stealing bases.

  4. You have been a true bright spot in a rather tuff season. Thanks for your humor and fun outlook.

  5. Hit #3 for Votto, but took one on the chin sliding into 2nd and had to come out.
Looked like he would have been out if the 2nd baseman had caught it

  6. Schebler ties it with a cue shot 65 foot grounder to third

  7. And Molina kills the Reds again with a walk off double

  8. Turns out it was supposed to be a ground rule double. Price tried to challenge but the umps left the field. Turns out you only have 10 seconds to challenge, which is Bull Mularky on the last play of the game

  9. Mary Beth deserved better on her final game thread of the year. Who wants to guess how long before this unfortunate ending gets worked into a game thread for next year? “Is he worse than a Yadier Molina walk off blown call?” Yes, yes he is. Nice work this season Mary Beth.
