Scary moment in last night’s game when Jose Peraza, who had just singled, was hit in the face by a pickoff throw. It’s was actually one of the strangest things you’ll ever see, as both Peraza and the Angels first baseman, CJ Cron, were hit in the face with the same pickoff throw.
The ball appeared to barely hit Cron’s glove before striking Peraza on the side of his head. (The ball then bounced up and bloodied Cron’s lip.) He was on the ground for a long time, and when he finally got to his feet, Peraza immediately (though slowly) walked to the dugout. He was replaced by Zack Cozart.
Watch the video here (can’t embed it because MLB has archaic rules about embedding video).
Anyway, it appears that Peraza is going to be okay. No concussion, at least. That’s according to manager Bryan Price:
“It was great news,” Price said of the outcome being less than serious. “We’ll check and see if he’s got a chipped tooth and whatever else you need to do that a dentist can do better than a general X-ray.”
I was hoping to have more information — Peraza was supposed to undergo further tests today — before posting this, but there’s nothing new to report today. I’ll update this when we have more.
Until then, check out Mothra on Ivan DeJesus Jr’s back last night:
