Redleg Nation Flashback: 2005

I ran across this image the other day. Reminded me of the old days. How many of you remember the site when we used this design? (Click on the picture below for a larger version.)

I simply cannot believe that we’ve been writing about the Reds here at Redleg Nation since 2005. Those were fun times, even if the Reds were awful when we launched this dumb little site.

Hopefully, eleven years from now, we’ll all still be here reminiscing about the fun we had with an awful team way back in 2016. Maybe?

  1. Yes Loyal follower since 2007!!! That’s one great thing about the internet—you can find your tribe so easily. Not to sound like an old fart, but kids today don’t realize how lucky they are in that respect.

  2. I only discovered Redleg Nation 18 months ago. It has been a life saver for me when it comes to actual baseball discussion that is almost always reasonably respectful, even when people disagree. Wish I had found it much earlier.

  3. I’ve always wondered. How many of us are there on this site? Are you able to share that data?

  4. I’m not sure exactly which site I was following in 2005 but I am glad this is where I spend most of my Reds time now, along of course with Doug Gray’s RedsMinorLeagues.

There’s lots of things I like about RLN starting and ending with the fact that flaming and that sort of craziness isn’t abided. In between there is the excellent content and discussion.

Also I like that as long as a person follows the rules they are allowed to come here and fully participate. At a site I spent a lot of time on before I found RLN this wasn’t always the case which is why I was looking around and was lucky to find RLN.

    • We’re glad you’re here too, Jim.

A big reason we started this site was because we were looking for a forum to discuss our favorite team without much of the nonsense that you see at other sites. I couldn’t be happier with the level of discourse we see here in the comments section regularly.

We don’t always agree, but most everyone tries not to be disagreeable.

  5. I’m pretty sure I started following the site and posting around 2008 as I remember Paul Bako and the Reds catching often being a point of discussion and this older ‘rookie’ Ryan Hanigan doing pretty well down the stretch.

Ironically I think the site posts were often more negative when the Reds were winning than before they got good or now that they are rebuilding. Maybe it was that winning got the site more traffic, I don’t know, but that’s what it seemed to me as a regular reader.

    • That’s awesome! On our latest podcast, I was reminiscing about how I felt about Votto the prospect, and I couldn’t really remember being over-the-top excited about him.

  6. Always fun looking at previous versions of sites you frequent. Keep up the good work. This is the place to be for serious Reds fans!

  7. Wow. I remember that format well. Not sure when I came aboard, but I have been around for a while. Good times.
