The Cincinnati Reds (54-71) finish their two game series against the Texas Rangers (73-53) tonight at Great American Ballpark. Win or lose, tonight’s game will cap a winning home stand against three teams in the playoff hunt.

Yu Darvish 2.75 3.32 1.4 5.9% 31.8%
Tim Adleman 2.96 4.92 1.1 10.4% 17.9%

It may not sound gramatically correct, bu Yu is good. Darvish is making just his 11th start of the season after missing the first two months recovering from Tommy John surgery. Then, he missed most of June with shoulder and neck pain. He returned after the all-star break, and made every start since. Darvish hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of his first 10 starts. He’s also thrown six or more innings in each of his last six starts, all qualifying as quality starts. In those last six starts, Darvish has thrown 39 innings, issued just four walks, and struck out 48 batters.

Tim Adleman is making just his 6th major league start of the season, and his second since being called up last week. In that start, he held the Dodgers scoreless for five innings. In 10 starts for AAA Louisville, Adleman had a 2.38 ERA/3.35 FIP, and a much better BB-rate walking just 4.4% of batters.

Yes, I think the 2016 Reds look a lot like the 2009 Reds. Which is why these 2nd half starts against division leading teams is not a scary proposition. I think the rebuild will be shorter than many fear.

Weather could be an issue. Over here in Indy we have tornado warnings all around us, with some actual touchdowns earlier.

Cincinnati could get some of it in coming hours — at least rain if not severe weather.

Kokomo got SMACKED. Saw some footage friends posted.

      • renbutler

The Kokomo area is getting it’s THIRD round of warnings, with another confirmed tornado just south of town.

Cincinnati is just staying out of the weather issues, for now.

At CBTS Pavilion. Hoping the weather holds out. Feels like rain!

This is a big game for the good guys. Darvish is top shelf, a good measure for the Reds bats tonight. The Old Cossack is excited about the game tonight and the rest of the 2016 season. This feels like the baseball season should feel.

Speaking of which, what’s the status of the gathering on the 3rd? The Reds are doing thweir part to make the event a success!

I was thinking earlier today about how bad Joey was doing earlier in the year and some of the comments made all over the place whether it be the internet or my office at work and I just have to say.. I’m sure Votto is enjoying riding around in his Ferrari almost as much as I am watching him do it.

I am wondering if the playing time Cabrera is getting is maybe Barnhart dinged up at the end of the year or are that confident that Mez will be healthy and ready they are showcasing Cabrera?

How many times this year am I going to say…

    Votto. What. The heck.

    • Big56dog

Cant see game, saw he made another error, what happened?

      • DHud

        Runner on 1st no out

Ball mashed to him at first. Goes to a knee to field it. Instead of standing up and making a throw he more or less tries to flip it side arm over the runner and misses second by 6 feet. Everyone safe

Next batter puts one in about the 15th row in right. 3-0

If this keeps up with Joey, he needs to be a designated hitter.

Apparently he hits very well when he’s very very very tired. But he feels the ball and runs the bases like a third grader.

    • DHud

He is the best flat out hitter in the game right now, period.

In every other aspect of the game, he does some things sometimes (read “regularly”) that leave you scratching your head

  8. lwblogger2

Well that ball was hit really hard.

  9. lwblogger2

Someone should look up when was the last time that Darvish has walked 3 in an inning.

    • Big56dog

when is the last time the Reds scored 2 in an inning without a hit or error?

  10. lwblogger2

Oops, 2 walks and a HBP (then a WP)

  11. lwblogger2

If Hamilton doesn’t win the Gold Glove it should be prosecuted as a criminal offense.

  12. Carl Sayre

That was a routine ground ball that Peraza showed a poor second base mans arm. I hope that was a fluke. That looked like something my old, obese self would throw and now Adelman is going to out ugly him sheesh.

  13. lwblogger2

And I thought the Rangers had already had batting practice.

  14. muttonlettucetomato

Adelman has some nice breaking pitches but 3 home runs ain’t gonna get it done. 90 mile batting practice fastball to Darvish and a hanger to Desmond have put the Reds back in the hole.

  15. lwblogger2

Hamilton grabbed that HR ball and gave it to Moreland as it was Darvish’s first career HR. Classy move by Hamilton.

  16. DHud

Definitely would’ve let Lorenzen hit for himself and go at least another inning. Especially with the double play out of play

    • VaRedsFan

Good point. At least Ivan did get the sac fly.

  17. VaRedsFan

Bad break on the GRule Double…both would have scored easily

Quality piece of announcing by Welsh there. He noted that Beltre took a 2-0 fastball on the inner half. Welsh said that it could be that Beltre was looking for a pitch away because he was trying to go the other way. Next pitch, up and AWAY, Beltre drives it in the RC field gap.

    • muttonlettucetomato

Yep, Welsh called it. Wood pitching 2 innings seemed to me like tempting fate anyway. Here comes Ohlendorf so it may be a mute point by the time he’s done.

Nice comeback by the Reds to tie it at 5, but giving up the go ahead run in the 8th inning is a backbreaker. I’m hoping somehow they can get to Hamilton in the order next inning and get a Hamilrun to tie or win it.

  20. TR

Ohle gets it done in the 9th. Now for a couple runs to take this series.
