Again this week, not much going on with player movement down on the farm.  That could change with the upcoming MLB trade deadline and the Reds being rumored to be on the sellers market.  If the Reds do pull the trigger on some deals it would most likely bring us some new prospects to follow for the remainder of the season.

AAA Louisville Bats

OF Brennan Boesch, .386/.485/.544/1.029, is still smoking hot since being sent down to AAA and getting some regular at bats.  IF Josh Satin, .274/.367/.406/.773, continues to hit well.  It’s a shame the Reds seem to favor IF Chris Dominguez, .201/.247/.361/.608, over him for some reason.

SP Robert Stephenson (1.64 ERA in AAA) made his second start for the Bats last night and tossed 6 IP allowing 0 R on 4 H and 1 BB with 6 SO.  Meanwhile, struggling LH SP David Holmberg (4.78 ERA) who has surrendered 114 H and 36 BB in 92.1 IP with 51 SO, may miss out on his promotion to the Reds to start Thursdays game due to last nights rain out.

AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos

3B Seth Mejias-Brean (.258/.378/.364/.742) is having a nice bounce back from a bad 2nd half last year at AA (.235/.333/.323/.656).  OF Juan Duran is off to a nice start, .316/.348/.421/.769 in 23 PA, since being activated from the DL.

SP Tim Adleman, who at 27 is a bit old for AA, had another good start last night, 1 ER over 7 IP, to lower his ERA to 2.00.  RP Zack Weiss, who posted a 0.00 ERA in 11.2 IP at A+ before being promoted to Pensacola, now has a 4.43 ERA in 22.1 IP with 7 S.  He has a 2.91 ERA at AA minus a May outing where he gave up 4 runs in 0.2 IP.  Over his 22.1 IP at AA the 23 year old has allowed 22 H and 6 BB with 24 SO.

High A Daytona Tortugas

3B Taylor Sparks (.254/.289/.387/.675) is just a bit above the Florida State League average .653 OPS, but is struggling with plate discipline as he has 103 SO and 11 BB in 307 PA.  OF Junior Arias, .249/.290/.390/.681, has 20 SB in 25 attempts.  SS Alex Blandino (.295/.372/.428/.800) has been placed on the 7 Day DL and I haven’t yet determined what his ailment is.

SP Amir Garrett (2.73 ERA) has allowed 68 H and 33 BB in 79 IP and leads the team with 87 SO.  LH RP Joel Bender (3.88 ERA) has tossed 48 IP and allowed 48 H and 14 BB with 43 SO.

Low A Dayton Dragons

OF Argenis Aldazoro, .270/.341/.324/.666, is off to a good start over his first 41 PA with Dayton.  3B Gavin LaValley (.270/.349/.381/.731) continues to put up good numbers for the Dragons.

SP Mark Armstrong (3.20 ERA) finds himself on the DL for the second time with a right elbow strain.  RH RP Jacob Ehret (2.86 ERA) has thrown 44 IP allowing 44 H and 13 BB with 32 SO.

Rookie Billings Mustangs

OF Aristides Aquino is hitting .226/.250/.387/.637 in 32 PA as he rehabs from a broken wrist.  OF Reydel Medina (.339/.391/.695/1.086) leads the team at the plate.  OF Ed Charlton (.913 OPS), OF Kevin Garcia (.876 OPS), and 3B Brantley Bell (.852 OPS) are off to hot starts as well.  First round 2015 draft pick C Tyler Stephenson is holding his own with a .809 OPS which right at the league average mark for the high offense Pioneer League.

LH SP Ty Boyles has a 2.57 ERA over his first four starts to lead the staff.

Rookie AZL Reds

C Jake Turnbull (.350/.435/.350/.785) is off to a good start at the plate, he is just 17 year old and from Austrailia.  OF Raul Wallace (.749 OPS), 3B Leandro Santana (.785 OPS), and OF Alberti Chavez (1.063 OPS) are all off to good starts at the plate as well.

Wendolyn Bautista has a 1.02 ERA over 17.2 IP over 4 games.  SP Jesus Reyes has a 3.12 ERA in 17.1 IP.

Hope to see Billings in Orem on Friday night. Missed Tuesday when my grandson got sick. Last night there were huge thunderstorms coming (and they did). Tonight going to Jazz Rookie League games. So Friday night is Plan B.

Saw the game tonight. Aristides Aquino very impressive with bat. Good power.

LH Ty Rollins (I think was his name) very impressive as SP. The Orem lineup has lots of good hitters and he shut them down all night.

How much longer will Amir Garrett be at high A with those stats?

Nick Howard, since I called him an “utter dud” about a week ago, has pitched 3 scoreless innings, giving up 1 hit and 1 walk, and striking out 5.

Maybe I should call Phillip Ervin names next.
