Injuries and the recent changes on the big club have caused a bit of change to the top level roster.   Let’s look at roster movements and check in on a few pitchers from each of the teams.

AAA Louisville Bats

The Michael Lorenzen call up left an open spot in the pitching rotation.  That spot should be filled by Matt Magill who was activated from the DL.  Magill had a rough first start, he went 4.2 IP allowing 4 R on 8 H and 4 BB, but he did record 9 SO. Magill came to the Reds from the Dodgers in the Chris Heisey trade.  Magill is a RH who has started in 115 of his 158 minor league appearances and has a 4.42 ERA in 175 IP at AAA in the high offense PCL.

Relief pitcher Drew Hayes was added to the roster from AA Pensacola.  The 27 year old RH had yet to be scored on this year at AA in 5.2 IP.  He posted a 4.06 ERA last year at AA in 71 IP.

Josh Satin was placed on the DL.  Donald Lutz was placed on the DL with a sprained right elbow.  RHP Chris Carpenter was released.  Nick Christiani was added back to the roster from Billings.

AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos

Tim Adleman is the best Wahoo SP thus far.  The 27 year old RH has a 2.38 ERA over 4 GS.  He posted a 2.85 ERA at AA last season over 79 IP where he started in 6 of 30 appearances.

RH Ben Klimesh has recorded 3 S and has a 1.65 ERA thus far.  The 25 year old closer has logged 6.2 IP allowing just 4 H and 1 BB while getting 5 SO.

Catcher Cam Moran was recalled from Daytona to replace C Yovan Gonzalez who was placed on the DL.

High A Daytona Tortugas

Amir Garret is tops thus far on a very good Daytona starting rotation.  The 23 year old LH has a 2.81 ERA over 3 GS.  In 16 IP he has allowed 16 H and 5 BB while amassing 19 SO.

Zack Weiss has now recorded 3 saves in the bullpen.  The 23 year old RH has yet to be scored on over 9.2 IP.  He has allowed just 2 H and 1 BB while recording an amazing 18 SO.

Low A Dayton Dragons

Tyler Mahle is the youngest of a strong starting staff doing very well at Dayton.  The 20 year old RH has a 2.78 ERA in 22.2 IP allowing 23 H and 3 BB with 16 SO.

Relief pitcher Brian Hunter has yet to be scored on and now has 2 saves.  The 22 year old RH now has 9.1 IP where he has allowed 7 H and 4 BB with 11 SO.

OF Aristides Aquino has been placed on the disabled list.  He was hit by a pitch and suffered a broken left wrist. Typical healing time for this injury is four-to-six weeks.  OF Jonathan Reynoso has been promoted to Dayton from extended spring training.
