I’m partial but would have liked a Heisey start tonight.

    • Kevin J. Brown

      Heisey as a starter in 2014: .210/.263/.307/.570

      Against LHP:

      Heisey: .200/.230/.343/.573

      Ludwick: .253/.318/.506/.825

      Not that hard a choice.

      • Nick Kirby

I personally think Heisey and Ludwick should be platooning in LF (Heisey vs RHP, Ludwick vs LHP).

      • Kevin J. Brown

On what possible basis? Heisey has been awful as a starter.

      • sergeant2

As the great Don Rickles would say “you win a cookie” Hah! pontoon, good one.

      • Nick Kirby

Heisey has a .651 OPS vs RHP, Ludwick has a .659 OPS vs RHP. Heisey’s defense and speed is certainly well worth 9 OPS points. And if you go back even further to since 2010 (when Heisey entered the league), he has a higher OPS than Ludwick vs RHP (Heisey .743, Ludwick .728).

  2. George Mirones

Bruce batting 3rd . Must be his stellar .170 AVG. against LH or maybe it is his .203 AVG. since the all star break. or as JAS428 says about Heisey, “Got to get him going” where , to the twins.…

  3. Shchi Cossack

The Old Cossack absolutely agrees with Mat Latos. When the game gets delayed by a torential downpore not five minutes after the start of the game, there is simply no excuse for starting the game with all the technology available for tracking storms.

  4. Steve Mancuso

The rain has slowed dramatically. Still thunder in the area. Much brighter skies. Huge amount of standing water on the tarp and ground.

    • Nick Kirby

What an absolutely horrendous decision to start this game on time, especially with you ace on the mound.

  5. Thegaffer

Rizzo the reds killer. Starting to worry about the next 5 years of cubs games.

  6. renbutler

I wonder if the 2014 Reds are threatening the all-time record for rain delays/postponements/suspensions?

I tried to look it up, but with no success.

  7. Kevin J. Brown

Was kinda expecting Soler to be in the Cubs lineup; is he at the field?

      • George Mirones

They did call up Axelrod for Thursday day game against the Cubs.

  8. sergeant2

Just realized I haven’t heard Cowboy for awhile, he’s not having any medical issues is he.

  9. Kevin J. Brown

This is depressingly familiar so far.

  10. Tom Reed

Four innings in and all of one hit.

  11. sergeant2

I can’t wait to hear the rest of the story Marty’s talking about before being interrupted by a commercial break.

  12. Thegaffer

This offense is the worst reds one I have seen in the last 25 years. Can you imagine where we would be with the 2006 era offense and this pitching staff? Heck, what if we had a league average offense?

    • Tom Reed

The Reds wouldn’t have the Cubs chasing them for fourth place.

  13. sergeant2

What the heck was that all about, the throw to 2nd that is. Misinterpreted signal I guess. Well, no harm, no foul. Go Reds!

  14. sergeant2

I think Cueto might be getting a little frustrated, with the lack of support from the Reds bats. Heck, who could blame him.

  15. sergeant2

That pitch was shoulder high, and the guy still hit it out of the park. The ball must be really carrying tonight.

  16. sergeant2

The Cubs have been playing pretty good baseball since the All Star break, they ain’t going to be the easy pickins’ we’re use to seeing.

  17. RedAlert

Glad to see Price has these guys ready to play tonight – off day Monday , flat as a pancake , listless , no enthusiasm – just pathetic – I wouldn’t walk across the street with a free ticket to see the product that the Reds are putting on the field – rather they get some guys up from minors who are excited to get the opportunity –

  18. Redgoggles

Such a frustrating season, but I’m not sure a sweep at home by the Cubs would be the worst case scenario as even the Reds front office would be forced to accept the fact that this season is over and work on identifying assets either to trade or develop. And Mr. Votto……can’t wait to see you NEXT YEAR! If he even comes back and get hurt, I may have to take a season off.

  19. Thegaffer

This team is not a Joey Votto away from being a playoff team, what a disaster.

    • George Mirones

      Maybe 4 Votto’s circa 2010.

  20. RedAlert

Jay just as well take the rest if the year off – geeze what a disappointment

    • George Mirones

Anything over 93/94 and high and he is a goner.

  21. Aaron Bradley

The sad thing is if this team had shown me anything.. I mean anything since the ASB I would surely pay the $12 for the rest of the way. Right now I can’t rationalize even spending $1.00 to watch the rest of the games. Seriously. If they dropped the price to 99 cents I’d have to think long and hard about it. I honestly think they should pay US to endure watching these games, that’s how bad the offense is.

    • sergeant2

I think $12.00 would be worth it just to see how the call ups do in September.

      • Aaron Bradley

Even if a prospect plays well, it really doesn’t mean much until they are forced to make adjustments, which probably won’t happen in the last month of a season.

  22. sergeant2

Do or die time, c’mon Reds you’re way past due for a walk off win. Go Reds!

  23. sergeant2

With the paywall I don’t get much info from the Reds beat writers, but are there stories concerning Bruce taking extra batting practice or anything to address his slump.

    • George Mirones

Last I read was that Bruce just says it is part the game.

  24. RedAlert

Another shutout – just a bad baseball team with clueless upper management (including ownership) – epitome of a rudderless ship lost at sea – just drifting to nowhere

  25. Mardigan

Wow… I don’t want to see one more article that espouses the idea that this team still has an outside chance at the playoff’s… Listless, flat and unenthusiastic… Good description from an earlier post… :*(

    • Vicferrari

They have a real shot at finishing last, could 1.5 games by Wed they keep it up

  26. sergeant2

As bad as the Reds looked tonight it would not be out of the ordinary for the Reds to come back and win the next two games, winning the series. Still, the way the Reds are playing its becoming painfully obvious that they could finish behind the Cubs by seasons end. Of course injuries have decimated the Reds, but so has the Reds front office mindset of, well, actually I have no clue what they are thinking.

  27. sergeant2

I could be wrong, but I think this is the first game thread of the season that only has one page. (no newer or older comments pages)
