Game Thread

Braves at Reds (August 23, 2014)

I’m running low on optimistic comments to make in the game thread. So I borrowed this from Michael J. Hampton in last night’s game thread:

Some reasons to watch the last 5 weeks of the season:

I want to see if Latos can get his velocity up
I want to see if Cueto can win 20
I want to see if Bailey returns
I want to see if Simon can recover a little bit of his pre ASG luster (He was pitching over his head, but I think he is better than he has pitched post ASG, may be just be worn down)
I want to see if Frazier and Mesoraco can finish strong
I want to see if Bruce can get out of his funk
I want to see how well Phillips recovers from his surgery
I want to see if Hamilton works on improving some areas of his game, in particular plate discipline
and maybe in September, call up some of the AAA guys and see what they got

and maybe, just maybe, 3 weeks of a fully recovered Votto (The only way I want to see him this year).

Those are all good reasons to watch from here forward. However Michael did not mention a thing about the excitement of watching Skip Schumaker and Jack Hannahan. I’m sure it was just a mistake on his part.

Discuss the game here Reds fans!

1. Hamilton CF
2. Schumaker LF
3. Phillips 2B
4. Frazier 3B
5. Pena C
6. Heisey RF
7. Hannahan 1B
8. Cozart SS
9. Leake P

  1. So is Chapman available? I find it a little weird that he was unavailable for the Card series but is going to pitch 4 innings in 3 days, allowed Broxton to not be used in crucial situations on 3 straight days

  2. Whens the last time the Reds won a game 1-0 this season. I don’t know the answer to that question, but I would think they were due.

  3. 41,502 showed up for tonight’s game, 41,502. (its not a titanic struggle unless Marty says it is, and he’s off tonight.) Go Reds!

    • Great to see them get a win in front of a sellout crowd. I’m going tomorrow to cheer for two in a row.

      • And considering the weather and the way things have been going for the Reds lately, a sellout crowd shows that Reds fans don’t have to take a back seat to any fans, when it comes to being loyal fans. Hope you have a good time at the game tomorrow Steve. Go Reds!

    • Proud of the fans coming out to support the team. 41,502 true fans in attendance tonight. Nice!

  4. I would be so fired up right now had the Reds pulled out the 4 games the bullpen over 3 days- Sunday to Tuesday- Oh well I am Chapman is OK

  5. I bet there will be a lot more comments posted when Redleg Nation members get home from the sellout game. I always like reading comments from the fans that were at the game. Go Reds! We’ll get em again tomorrow.
