Reds at Yankees (July 19, 2014)

The Reds and Yankees kick off an afternoon tilt at Yankee Stadium today. The Reds will send All-Star Alfredo Simon to the mound today to face former Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy. The last time the Reds faced McCarthy they scored 5 runs on 9 hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Let’s hope for a repeat of that today by the Reds.

  1. Way to guard the line. Pena never got within 2 feet of that ball.

  2. I’ve got pneumonia. This ain’t the rest I needed. Sad part is, I don’t even feel like drinking.

    • I grant you these have been two frustrating losses, but why would the Reds have a team meeting after only two games into the “second half” of the season, especially coming off a two-week period in which they cut the division-leading Brewers’ lead by six games?

    • Averages 6.2 K/inning and he strikes out 9 in 6 against our guys. Pathetic.

Every wart the Reds have is being exposed today.

  3. CH can give you some abysmal ABs when he is of mind too.

  4. Anyone care to lay a bet on when the next Reds walk will come? I’m thinking maybe Wednesday?

  5. This is one of the worst Reds performances of the season. Just a bad game all around. It happens, but a missed chance to gain ground with Brewers going against the Nats and Cards against the Dodgers.

  6. Steve,

Is there any legitimate reason why Zack Cozart bats 2nd in a major league lineup? Just…why?

    • Because at least one other major league manager once thought it was a good idea. That’s the typical defense of Price’s irrational decisions.

  7. It was suggested the team might have a closed-door meeting after this game. I can imagine how that might go:

    “Anyone have any ideas?”
“Uh… yeah… let’s try swinging a little harder and stop taking so many pitches.”
    “Ok, great. Meeting adjourned.”

  8. Okay, hopefully JC can prevent a sweep and the guys get well when they get home. Ugly baseball.

    • I’m really not feeling optimistic for my trip to Milwaukee on Wed next week now!

      • Understand. It’s the 2014 Reds: at best, they look like a slightly above average team; at worst, they look like they couldn’t beat the ’62 Mets. Hopefully the former will show up in Milwaukee.

I mistakenly thought they were home for that series. Oh well, we have Front Row Amy to look at next week; so things aren’t totally bad.
