Mat Latos retruns to Sandy Eggo to face his former team. Of course Mat is now into his 3rd season with the Reds and it’s about time to forget Mr. Latos was ever a Padre and focus on him dominating the Padres tonight and carry the Reds to their sixth consecutive victory.

The month of June must come to a close tonight and with it so will the Reds’ best month of the 2014 season. A win tonight puts the Reds at 19-9 for the month and put them 6 games among the .500 mark. I’m not even going to go into the other outcome because this team is on fire and no way they lose tonight*.

Lineup:
1. Hamilton CF
2. Frazier 3B
3. Votto 1B
4. Phillips 2B
5. Bruce RF
6. Mesoraco C
7. Ludwick LF
8. Cozart SS
9. Latos

*The big, bad, blog guy who doesn’t even play in the game just made a guarantee over the internet. I’m sure it’s enough to fire up the clubhouse, right!?

  1. Mat could hardly pitch any better then tonight. This is the inning to get it done as Street is lights out this season.

  2. Recap is simple so far. Latos, good. Offense, bad. Then add the standard solid defense and not the greatest baserunning.

  3. Ouch. Incredible play by Maybin. Painful.

  4. Just another loud out in San Diego.

  5. Sucks to see Latos taken out because of our lackluster offense tonight

  6. It ain’t happening tonight – padres luck unreal

  7. Is tomorrow night’s game at 10 EST?

  8. To say the Reds are making good contact is a major understatement, just don’t have anything to show for it yet, yet being the key word. Go Reds!

  9. Just a broken bat base hit. That’s all he gave up. Great outing.

  10. How about Frazier yanks one out of here?

  11. Baseball is a funny game. No way do the Padres deserve to win this, yet here we are.

  12. I hate the Padres.

  13. You have to hit from second base to get one out CF.

  14. 11 K’s…. wow, SD pitchers seem to give us fits, if this score holds up I feel so bad for Lagos…..

  15. Wow. So many hard hits, deep centers, line shots by our guys. Nothing is landing. Add to the a couple of baserunning blunders and you’ve got a boring night and a loss.

  16. Just amazing !!!! 2 bombs this inning by reds and neither leaves the yard !

  17. I really hate this stadium. Well this gives Joey Votto the chance to hit a home run in the ninth I suppose if he isn’t already heading out of the parking lot in his stretch limo.

  18. Qualcomm Stadium = House of Horrors.

  19. I don’t see how anyone hits one out of this park… the ball just dies. Padres pitchers probably figure they can just throw gas down the middle and they’re never going to get anything but a catchable fly ball if someone connects. No wonder they’re 24-0 if they have a a lead after 7.

  20. Sam gives up walk when padres couldn’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag

  21. It’s games like this that really show the importance of smart baserunning.

  22. 19,079 turned out for tonight’s titanic struggle, 19,079.

  23. Good job by Price here. That should be a double play on Cabrera.

  24. Wow. Someone caught he didn’t tag up before he went back. That is sharp on someone’s part.

  25. c’mon. He touched it or he didn’t. this should not take this long.

  26. Safe? Get tossed on that. That is a bad call.

  27. Instant Replay = Joke.

  28. And the reds lose another replay on this absolute worthless system – what the crap do these people look at on a review – pathetic !!!

  29. Marty and Cowboy are quite perplexed about that call.

  30. I hope MLB makes a comment on that call. I’d like to know the ruling. Do both feet have to go past the bag? Can’t remember ever seeing that type of play.

  31. Replay is an abomination.

    • Hulk smash replay.

      • I’m a fan of replay. It is a work in progress right now, but I think it is well worth it. Only the bad calls tend to stick in people’s mind; it has gotten a lot of calls right.

  32. Get a run for crying out loud !!!

  33. I’m thinking the retired umps looking at the replays don’t want to go against their brother umps. The retired umpires think they’re still part of the fraternity.

  34. Sooner or later Street has to blow a save, might as well be tonight. Go Reds!

  35. Fun fact for Friday Night Light fans (tv version): The QB who gets hurt in the pilot episode, Jason Street, is named after Huston Street (and his brothers). They were huge athletes, and supposedly good kids in Austin a little bit before the show started up.

  36. Pinch-run Leake.

  37. Here we come !!!!!

  38. Strike 1 not even close.

  39. Yet another ball called a strike

  40. Hit & run??

  41. Has Street thrown one pitch in the strike zone against BP.

  42. Bad loss tonight. That is a tough one.

  43. Unbelievable

  44. Bad loss to a crap team

  45. Lost a one-hitter. That doesn’t happen everyday.

  46. Latos with the leadoff walk gets beat. That one has to hurt. The Reds have to learn how to play this park… the long ball is not going to get you there.

  47. Pathetic showing boys…..

  48. The amazing part is we could have been no-hit tonight and still lost. The Padres’ only run came off a leadoff walk, a stolen base, and 2 flyouts.

  49. Petco Park 1 Reds 0 Back at em tomorrow, this game is history, end of story. If the Reds keep hammering the ball like they did tonight they’re going to win a lot of ballgames. Adios Amigos. Go Reds!

  50. so much for gaining ground. Bummer

  51. Case in point why Mes needs to bat higher than 6.

  52. Get the next 2 and reds still looking good !

  53. Reds still 6-2 so far on this road trip.

  54. I believe a huge play in the game was when we had ducks on the pond and Latos was up to bat. I mean its tough for a pitcher to come thru in times like that especially early in the game. Now we have to win the next 2 games finish this west coast trip 8-2 and get ready for the Fireworks series against the brewers. Go Reds.

  55. 3 lousy baserunners and we don’t find a way to win??. Must have left our bats in San Fran.

  56. Sorry , but it’s just criminal to bat Mes this low in the order – inexcusable in my opinion
