Minor League Player of the Day: Louisville RHP, Pedro Villarreal, threw 6 innings of shutout baseball against the Indians. He allowed only 2 hits, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out 8. That runs his record in AAA to 4-9 on the season and his ERA stands at 4.43. His WHIP is 1.30. This is his second year at AAA, last year going 3-12 with a 4.61 ERA and a WHIP of 1.421. Villarreal pitched much better in the second half of the season with the Bats (though he did spend part of that time with the Reds), with a 2.45 ERA, but he was used mostly out of the bullpen for the Bats in the 2nd half, starting only 3 games (2 in the last week). It doesn’t look like the franchise quite knows what they want to do with the 25 year old right hander at this point.

AZL Reds season is over.
I’ve been a Reds fan since the late ’60’s, with my luck of being able to attend plenty of games at Riverfront during the BRM era. I was sitting in the Green Seats in the OF when Pete came home in ’84 and was in the Red seats when Glenn Braggs reached over the fence in ’90 to beat the Pirates. I have had many favorites from Jim Maloney to Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Jay Bruce.
