Yes, the Reds and Cardinals have to play again tonight.

Discuss the game here if you have the stomach for it.

  1. Regressed toward the mean with only 3 in the second.

  2. Anybody counting a win yet?

    Me neither.

  3. Is this like the SF game where Cincinnati is the home team and the 2 teams switched jerseys?

    • Is this like the SF game where Cincinnati is the home team and the 2 teams switched jerseys?

      ha

    • @vicferrari: I tel; ya, that deal is still a sore spot for me. Giving up a home game in that situation?

  4. I’m starting to be concerned that the Cardinals will bring in a lefty within the next inning or two, and then Votto and Bruce are screwed, since, you know, they’re back-to-back and neither of them can touch lefties.

  5. Add on the field goal.

  6. Bengals fail to get it in the endzone again but get their 3rd straight field goal. bengals lead the Rams 9-0, 1st quarter.

  7. I’d give Votto the night off now…Wainright is a prick and wouldn’t surprise me to see him throw at Votto next time around.

  8. Question? Will Wainright bat in this game? I say no.

Hope this explosion carries on for the rest of the year.

  9. The only thing that would make this game more enjoyable is a good knee-slapper about Votto not being paid to walk.

    Women’ be shoppin’!! Amirite?!?!

  10. Homer embarrassed Craig on three pitches.

  11. Was that the same Allen Craig from the nights before?

  12. It’s Jacoby’s fault.

  13. Wonder what Latos thinks about this timely line-up change?

  14. Seven runs from the top four spots in the lineup (so far).

  15. I bet a bunch of those fans brought brooms to the ballpark.

I know something they can do with them…

  16. Three more this inning and a brawl.

  17. Homer just needs to throw outs … no groover balls. Don’t let them get 2 or 3 runners on base.

  18. I had to bring up the guide on my TV to be sure I was watching a live game and not something that was taped from years ago. I’m not even sure I’m on the right channel.

  19. Can we please put a copy of the box score from this game in the dictionary next to “catharsis?”

  20. Wainwright is out. Enter Wacha.

  21. Game is such a good example of how Votto’s walks can be incredibly valuable with the right hitters in front and behind him. It wasn’t just that he reached base, it was that he forced them to pitch to Bruce. The key was having Bruce hitting behind him.

  22. When I see this 4 times this week, I will believe the tide has turned. For now, a win is a win … let’s hang on and get it! WHO’S WITH ME?

  23. Question now is: Do you rest the regulars or keep testing out the new lineup?

  24. Im still nervous. Anyone else think Molina will be inserted very soon?? Also… remember a few years ago when the Reds blew an 8 run lead in the 9th vs the braves??

  25. Who are you and what have you done with our Cincinnati Reds?

  26. Does anybody know where the scout report comes from on mlb.com.

Was it really necessary to post this:
Michael Wacha is trying to tie up Homer Bailey with fastballs inside; Bailey is hitting .000 on pitches in that location compared to .130 overall.

    • @vicferrari: It’s generic and computer-generated. As soon as the computer sees a certain combination of numbers, it shares really worthless analysis.

  27. Not getting ahead of myself. But get Homer out after 100 pitches. In previous blowouts, Baker has let him throw alot of pitches, and Homer seems to struggle in starts afterwards

    • @VaRedsFan: You know Dusty, he will let Homers arm fall off with this lead. Spare that precious bullpen.

    • @VaRedsFan: A great point, VaRedsFan. I’m still stewing about Cingrani’s 118 pitches in that 8-1 win in San Fran. Gotta see the big picture!!

  28. It won’t happen BUT, to make a statement and maybe get in their heads for once, I would love to see Homer drop a “no no” on em.

  29. Anybody remember the first time these two teams met this year? The Cards’ home opener?

Tonight reminds me of that ninth inning:

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN201304080.shtml

  30. After 2 innings 9-0 Cincinnati Red Stockings. (circa 1882-1889)

  31. Now I remember why I like this game.

  32. Everytime the announcers say Wacha’s name I think of Fozzie Bear.

  33. This series has been classic Reds’ offense. Scored 4 in the second inning of Game 1, then virtually disappeared for 16 innings, then scored 9 in two innings. When they’re good, they’re VERY good. But when they’re bad….

  34. I do not think Chapman’s pitched in awhile, what are the chances Pops bring him in the 7th to get a 3 inning save?

  35. Cozart got a break on that call. He drops an easy double play ball and gets the out at 2B.

  36. Just read the article on Fox Sports Midwest about Phillip’s blow up today. Don’t know if anyone’s seen it but it really doesn’t make Phillips look good. Here’s the link. http://www.foxsportsmidwest.com/fox-sports-networks/story/Reds-Phillips-verbally-blasts-beat-repor?blockID=933881&feedID=8745

  37. Cozart should never be nonchalant about ANYTHING. He’s good but he ain’t no Brandon Phillips.

    • @RedTitan19: What do you guys think about that BP story? A non-story? Representative of what maybe has just been kind of “off” about this team all year? Time for him to move on this offseason? Time to get over this and worry about real news? I can’t decide.

      • @caps: I think it’s just Phillips doesn’t necessarily enjoy the media.

      • @caps: I understand that BP is probably frustrated because I can only imagine that Dusty harps on him every day to go up to the plate and hack away because, just like Joey Votto, “its his job” to drive in runs, not walk. BP must be pissed that he’s getting grief for simply following the manager’s orders. However, either way it doesn’t make Brandon look good if all of the cursing quotes are accurate.

      • @caps: non story. BP probably trying to deflect attention. He has a flair for that. See salary article last month.

      • @RedTitan19: What do you guys think about that BP story? A non-story? Representative of what maybe has just been kind of “off” about this team all year? Time for him to move on this offseason? Time to get over this and worry about real news? I can’t decide.

I think Phillips is a big baby.

      • @caps: I don’t know. For all of the complaining on this board about lack of fire, leadership, etc., I kind of like this. Obviously, BP isn’t displaying “leadership” here, but it shows some passion, which has clearly carried over onto the field tonight. If it takes a lot of unnecessary profanity to wake them up and take them to the Cards, then by all means, go for it. I’d love to see the same story about Hanigan tomorrow.

  38. Couple of hard luck at bats for Homer – let’s see if he can settle down.

  39. I’m confused???? Descalso flied out (#1), Wacha hit into a fielder’s choice out (#2). If Cozart was awarded the out off of Carpenter’s bat, why isn’t it the 3rd out?

    • I’m confused???? Descalso flied out (#1), Wacha hit into a fielder’s choice out (#2). If Cozart was awarded the out off of Carpenter’s bat, why isn’t it the 3rd out?

      NVM. Got it.

  40. Homer looking really good through 3.

  41. Isn’t Bailey allowed to change shirts?

  42. 4 or 4-1/2 outs that inning … but no runs again.

  43. Nice K for Homer.

And really, Phillips should do the classy thing and apologize…

…by sending C. Trent a case of slim fast lol.

I mean seriously. Phillips wasn’t lying, dog. Dude has a weight problem.

    lol

  44. So I just read the article. Phillips hopefully was trying to run Trent out of town. I don’t know why the Enquirer would hire a guy who bashed the Reds after the Game 3 loss last year.

I’d like to give him a piece of my mind too. Maybe this was just payback.

I wouldn’t be sad at all to see fat Trent go away.

    • @rfay00: So the media should only be allowed to print glowing praise? It’s not a freaking class yearbook!!

      • @caps: During the regular season, do whatever you want. During the PLAYOFFS, the LOCAL PAPER is bashing the Reds and their fans. If you really support that, then that’s your own opinion that I won’t agree with.

    • @rfay00:
what is the deal, everyone always complains the beat writers do not ask tough questions.
What is wrong with Trent and what did he do wrong?

  45. Oh well.. focus on 9-0 for tonight!!

  46. I hope ESPN isnt spouting about the EPIC COMEBACK of their beloved Cardinals tomorrow. STL seems to be the only NL team they like to talk about now that the Nats suck.

  47. Nuther unproductive at bat by Votto. : )

  48. I didn’t like what Rosecrans said about Reds fans last fall. But I also don’t like what Phillips did. Rosecrans was just doing his job. In fact, he’s doing it in a way that the other beat writers won’t by asking some slightly uncomfortable questions of the players and managers. Isn’t that what we clamor for? We want the beat writers to be more than just PR organs for the team.

If we want the beat writers to do some serious reporting, we can’t fail to support them in a situation like this.

Phillps’ behavior was totally unprofessional. Like a spoiled brat. All smiles until someone questions him a bit. BP gets more good press than any other individual on the team.

    • Phillps’ behavior was totally unprofessional. Like a spoiled brat. All smiles until someone questions him a bit.

In the video Baker looked like he was crapping his pants.

    • @Steve Mancuso: Agree 100%.

    • @Steve Mancuso: Agree with this analogy.

Good thing Wacha didn’t start this game. Shutting the Reds down so far. Maybe the intensity level has dipped a litle too.

    • @Steve Mancuso: Could not agree more concerning beat writers asking the tough questions, we need more of them.

    • @Steve Mancuso: Nice to see any Red showing some emotion. I’m real good with it as long as it wasn’t physical. BP strikes me as a good guy with a big heart. Would be surprised if BP does not apologize to Trent in the next day or two. I believe it is more about the last couple of games and BP was just set off.

    • @Steve Mancuso: Everything depends on being professional. Phillips needs to start. He had issues with John Fay a couple of years back.

    • @Steve Mancuso: I’m with you, and C. Trent. BP needs to grow up. There’s noting wrong about a reporter asking or writing something about a meaningful aspect of the game.

  49. Wow. Wacha is on fire.

  50. I sure wish Jocketty wouldn’t have passed on Wacha, he’d be nasty in our bullpen right now, not to mention our future rotation

  51. If Homer gets through 8 just under 100, I think I’m OK with him attempting the 9th on a short leash. Beyond that, I say 100 is the max, a little bullpen work, and a day off tomorrow.

    Anybody have any thoughts?

    • @msanmoore:
Chapman needs some work. If he does not get a shot today its a whole week between appearances and 1 in 9 days.

  52. These are the 2013 Reds hitters I’ve come to know and love.

  53. Minor redemption for Zack there …

  54. Dealing!!

  55. Just posted the second Game Thread. We’re trying to prevent the service failures we’ve been having. Worked pretty well last night.

Let’s move the fun over there.

    Nice play by Cozart.

  56. Marlon Byrd puts the game out of reach for the Brewers. I bet PIT thinks they struck gold with that trade.

Gave up two prospects in the Pirates top 20 to get them though.

  57. Homer is just a ball player.

  58. Hits for everybody but Frazier, Hannigan, and … Votto (who we don’t pay to walk, right?)

  59. Won’t the winning WC team play the Braves while the central winner will play the Dodgers?

  60. New game thread…..

  61. There’s was an interesting article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that had a lot of quotes from Dusty about last nights fiasco. The article titled “Poor Play vs Cardinals Frustrates Players” You can get the story off the front page of Sports Section. (Sorry, but I don’t have the skills to post a link). Go Reds!!!!

  62. Was listening to ESPN Radio this afternoon while driving and they were discussing who was going to win the Central. Well, the announcers were still considered it a toss-up as a few thought the Cards would take it while a few of ESPN die-hards thought Dusty would lead the Reds to the Division title. I almost drove off the road and into a ditch. I said what – ‘Dusty will find a way’? Have they watched the Cards simply manhandle the Reds this season? ESPN stated this was a must win for the Reds in August – you think the Red’s players heard them say that?

Maybe they have some gumption after all. As it is, I just got in a little while ago and saw the score of 9-0. Who are those players in the Reds uniforms? And what happened to the scoreboard? And where are they holding the tied up and gagged Red’s starters ?

  63. HELLO … we are on a new game thread …

  64. Lucky for us, they didn’t start Wacha.
