Can the Reds make it three wins in a row?  They can if the offense can score runs and Bronson Arroyo can be good Bronson Arroyo tonight.  I won’t say that this is a stretch that the Reds can really capitalize on because that seems to back-fire.  But the Reds really need to try and take advantage of what lays ahead of them if catching the Pirates is something this team wants to do this season.

  1. Good to see Hanigan and his 193 batting average immediately inserted into the lineup just as Mes is finally starting to hit. For the 93rd time this season, I am ticked off before the game even starts.

  2. Sweep the leg! Go Reds!

  4. Frazier in the 2 hole again. I like it!

  5. Reds find themselves a full 7 games behind the pirates but only 3 behind the WLBs.

Just keep winning and all will be well.

  6. Looks like good Bronson! Hot damn.

  7. Is Todd becoming more patient at the plate?

  8. Yay!!!! Todd broke the curse!!!!

  9. Congtrats Todd.

  10. Todd jokingly called got the ball after he reached second – as if it was his first major league hit.

  11. (Called FOR) damn iPad.

  12. Loving the start of this game. Feeling good.

    …at the moment.

Though after a double, single, and walk I’d like to see more than one run please.

      • Though after a double, single, and walk I’d like to see more than one run please.

Double, single, and single I mean.

  13. Durn. Well, they went a bit there.

  14. Man, sure wish they could have gotten another run in there. Bruce nearly made it 4-0, and there’s worse outs than Heisey’s hard hit 7 pitch out.

  15. Thankfully Arroyo can hit at the bottom 1/3 of our order.

  16. Nice to see our new #2 hitter on base his first two trips.

  17. As always, I’m learning a lot from Chris Welsh. So far tonight I’ve learned: “It’s not how you play, it’s who you play and when you play them,” and “it’s not who you beat, it’s how many you win.” Baseball is so simple when you’ve got a guy like Welsh to explain it.

  18. Votto is en fuego!

  19. I realize we love HR’s but triples are probably the most exciting hit in a ballgame.

  20. atta boy Votto…halfway to the cycle!!!

  21. I don’t care what everyone else says… I still say Joey Votto isn’t a bad hitter.

  22. I think that this is the Votto we have been waiting for all year for hitting with runners on. All it took was to put Frazier in the 2 spot before him and it fixes both of them. “Dusty the Genius” has emerged? I’ll believe it when he handles the pitchers sensibly.

  23. BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!

  24. Rangers get Alex Rios

  25. Reds hitting everything hard. Maybe the long streak is upon us!

  26. He’s a doubles machine lately. I’m really loving this years Bruce. The ups and downs are on a much more even line.

  27. Seems like an awful lot of “deep left” and “deep right” hits and outs tonight.

  28. Tuesday and Wednesday’s wins is the start of the run we’re gonna make on the Pirates and WLBs.

  29. As much fun as it is to watch the Reds pound this guy.. that Padres pitcher is the worst match up possible against the Reds. He seems to have two pitches and his one breaking pitch is inconsistent and has little movement. We all know the Reds can hit fastballs, regardless of the speed if they’re fairly straight.

    That said, roll on Reds!

  30. Delmon Young DFA’d. Was once thought to be a rising star and still has decent power, but doesn’t reach base, strikes out with regularity, and doesn’t steal. Has “future Red’s outfielder” written all over him.

  31. Ooops

  32. OK…3-1, middle of 5th. Let’s get that run back or more.

  33. I think a Votto cycle needs to include a walk, so I’m thinking we go that out of the way.

  34. 3 line drives by Phillips tonight…although the 2nd AB was more of a jam shot

  35. I don’t think this pitcher can actually get Votto out. He seems terrified to throw anything over the plate at this point.

  36. Good job Chris.

  37. Joey really using those wheels tonight.

  38. It feels like we used to say in the slow-pitch softball bench … everybody hits, everybody scores.

  39. Thank you.

  40. Awesome Heisey…rbi double…w/ 2-outs. Glad the OF bobbled. looked like they had a shot to get Votto at the plate.

  41. Missed Yonder by THAT much!

  42. Wow, an oddly upbeat Redleg Nation crowd tonight. Not much doom and gloom about a team 12 games over .500.

    Great to see!

  43. Nice slide, recover, throw by Bruce!

  44. Gold glover BRUUUUUUUCE.

  45. awesome defense by Bruce!…you can’t quantify hustle

  46. Bruce with a gold glove testimonial if there ever was one.

  47. If I could operate windows 8 as well as Votto is running tonight I would have been here sooner. Watching Bruce play right field is worth the price of admission alone. Go Reds!

  48. Venable is supposed to be a good defender but he seems to stink it up against the Reds. Any data here?

  49. Great hustle Todd!

  50. Is our new #2 3 for 3 getting on base in front of Joey???

  51. 2nd hit by Frazzy..3rd time on base tonight

  52. BP!!!!!!!!!

  53. Book it!!!! BP!!!!

  54. Reds feasting on bad defense tonight.

  55. 86 RBI’s for BP. Not bad a-tall.

  56. The way Albert Pujols production has fallen off, it kinda makes you think that what Jack Clark said on his radio show about Albert’s former trainer saying Albert used steroids might just be true.

  57. That’s something you don’t hear often when Arroyo is pitching: Got em with a fastball.

  58. Plantar Fascitis…anyone ever hear of this foot problem 10 years ago. Now you hear it all the time…in every sport

    • @VaRedsFan: Really common problem for runners. I honestly don’t remember what chronic injuries were big 10 years ago.

      • @Jason Linden: When I was a kid the “pulled groin” was (to everyone’s delight) a very common injury. Now it seems not to exist.

    • @VaRedsFan:
If he has Plantar Fascitis & is trying to play through it, I can see why he can barely move.

I had the same thing – and I’m definitely not an athlete. It was so bad I could barely walk on it. Cortisone injections didn’t help, & I ended up having outpatient surgery. I was up in a walking boot in 3 days & it’s about 99.9% better. So I don’t see why a professional athlete wouldn’t just have the surgery if it’s that bad. It’s a much better option than hoping it gets better.

  59. Marty and Jeff are killing me tonight. “Your wife.” Awesome.

  60. Only the 2nd inning but its Rockies 4-0 over the Pirates. Oops I mean Bucko’s

  61. Pirates had 4 hits & no runs in first.

  62. 30,288 turned out for tonight’s titanic struggle, 30,288.

  63. Hey, I agree with Dusty! It’s a good time to get Broxton an inning.

  64. Would be nice to see Brox go 1-2-3 here.

  65. W

  66. Certainly an upgrade from Partch, that’s for sure.

  67. Nice first inning back by Broxton. Back to 13 over .500 and the Pie-Rats are losing big so far tonight.

  68. Broxton had nice pop on the fastball.

  69. This was a well played game by the Reds in every aspect. Hey, why not beat em again tomorrow. Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

  70. Maybe I’m imagining it, but I thought Broxton looked a little trimmer. Or, I should say, a little less not-trim.
