The Reds have lost 6 of their last 10 games and will look to get back to winning by taking on the team with the 2nd best record in the American League in the form of the Texas Rangers.  Despite how bad things have seemed lately, the Reds are still the 3rd best team in the NL and are just 3.5 games behind 1st in the division.  I am not panicking yet, and neither should you.

Who better for the Reds to send to the mound tonight and get back on the winning track than Johnny Cueto.  Cueto had his worst start of the season in his last outing against Arizona, which means he is due for a bounce back game tonight.  That’s right, I’m calling it.  Johnny Cueto pitches well tonight and the Reds win!

Before the Reds get that win tonight, we must discuss how the game plays out here! Oh, and the Reds must GO!

  1. I’ll guess the Mesoraco swings at the first pitch and grounds to 3rd.

  2. Grand Slam to tie it! And all us pessimists can rejoice!

  3. Tying run up; cmon MES!

  4. Come on, Mes. Bases loaded, the guy has got to throw strikes. Be patient, wait for a good one to hit.

  5. Reds with the bases loaded – .321/.365/.462
Reds wit h2 outs and RISP – .185/.331/.307

  6. I’d rather have hannigan up here 10 out of 10 times.

  7. For crap’s sake, bases loaded and can’t take 1 strike ?

  8. Or that

  9. I bet that this slump is absolutely killing the sales of Dusty’s instructional video on hitting. Which in itself maybe the problem. Too many hitting coaches. You got Jacoby preaching one philosophy and Baker with another. It’s no wonder this team can’t hit.

  10. 20 straight scoreless innings.

  11. Did Baker give any thought in using XP there????

  12. Still got two innings to go!

    Go Reds!

  13. Well that sums up our season. Garbage situational hitting

  14. Pirates score 10 tonight. That is more runs than the Reds have scored in a week.

  15. Boooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  16. Just wait till after the All Star break, the Reds are gonna teach the rest of those NL teams a lesson they won’t soon forget.

  17. You know what, I am as big of a Reds fan as anyone on here but, part of me wants to see how far this scoreless streak would go on before someone from management would make a move. Just top see how long Nero would fiddle and watch Rome burn.

  18. We need to recognize the Red’s pitching and understand that it covers up offensive flaws that other teams are jealous of. Look at tonight: we were embarrassed but one swing by Mez could have changed it all

  19. Simon is doing a good job!

    Go Reds!

  20. I just don’t see this team making a run in the playoffs this year. I think I would rather punt this year for future success if it meant no Dusty and some moves in the offseason to improve the roster.

  21. cant blame this one on the cueto situation…. 4 runs, especially given the cueto situation is not bad…of course if you don’t get one……

  22. Is there a reason XP doesn’t hit for Mes in that bases loaded RH pitcher situation? Aside from Dusty not being very smart, I mean?

  23. I said it earlier but we are closer to the division championship than we are from getting dethroned from the second wildcard

    • @RedTitan19: For how long though? This team has too many holes and a pathetic manager even if they get in the one game crapshoot playoff somehow.

  24. Simon was the best pickup ever, even if it means Frazier got a late start to the majors

  25. Come on Reds – let’s gets some runs. Base hits can score runs. Honestly.

  26. The old adage is that: a team is never as good as when they are hot and never as bad as when they are in a slump. But this is just painful to watch.

Surprising to say that tonight, it’s not been Cozart’s fault.

  27. That was an AB that ought to land you in AAA.

  28. As long as the Reds don’t fall hopelessly to many games out of first place in the division, I’m not gonna take a long walk on a short pier.

  29. 4 for 45 lol…..

  30. Reds 4-45 w/ 15 Ks with RISP on the road trip.

  31. Start with one run guys. Get Zack in. Go Reds!

  32. Is that really possible. Bad luck all the way around

  33. Why anyone would ever throw a strike to a Red is beyond me. Sure, Votto would walk most ABs, and occasionally Choo, but so what? Everyone else would get themselves out.

  34. Hey stat guys, make that one prettier…

  35. 41,218 showed up for tonight’s titanic struggle, 41,218.

  36. Choo is really in the tank. Jeez!

  37. D Rob needs to shave that Wilson Valdez looking beard. He’s starting to hit like Valdez.

  38. The Choo train has definitely left the station. I’m glad the Reds haven’t signed him long term. I’d rather watch Billy hamilton.

  39. Aaaaaaaaa!!!! We have no team

  40. Joey is all messed up too.

  41. Put Hanigan on paternity leave and call up a catcher who can pinch hit.

  42. What about the Votto train? At least he can homer in garbage time

  43. Get them in the 9th!

    Go Reds!

  44. TOS.

  45. .085 RiSP

  46. *yawn.

  47. If the Cards lose tonight the Pirates will be alone in 1st place in the division. Are the Pirates really that good, or are the way things stand now only a temporary situation. By seasons end will the Reds and Cardinals be fighting it out as to who wins the division. Stay tuned.

  48. Votto=ego=waste of cash=all the money=todd helton

  49. Votto, Choo, it’s like another person has taken over their bodies. Someone with much less talent. Choo’s free agent value is just tanking with every AB. He may have to beg the Reds to sign him for the minimum next year.

  50. Yeah crazy… Whatever

  51. 21 entradas sin anotación recto

  52. The kiss of Reds death – a leadoff double. We’ve seen plenty of those go to waste. Even worse, Washiongotn didn’t even go to a lefty for Choo, who absolutely can’t hit them, and Votto. It’s likely managing vs. a high school team.

  53. Who just caught Dusty’s body language there? It was a complete, white flag, not my problem.

  54. Dusty seemed to be chewing gum and not a toothpick. Is that a new strategy?

  55. Time to ask Marty equals time to hit the mute button and listen to the mlb.com broadcast.

  56. Lets go Reds!

  57. Nice inning, Sam. Bullpen has pitched well enough to win. Can the Reds rally to make it so?

  58. I predict 1-2-3.

  59. The Reds are supposedly a warm weather team, don’t get much hotter than +100. No reason the Reds can’t tie it in the 9th. Go Reds!!

  60. This is the kiss of death. Bring in the Lexington native.

  61. The question tomorrow will be, what lineup can Dusty put out that can score A run. Just 1. Right now, that would be a small victory.

    I go with this lineup.
    Izturis
    Heisey
    Hannahan
    Paul
    Phillips
    Votto
    Mesoraco
    Bruce
    Robinson

    • @RedForever: I don’t think it’s a lineup construction issue. Votto and company just can’t square one up right now especially with runner in scoring position.

      • @George Culver: I would lead Joey off until his RBI ability returns. I’m dead serious.

        • @CharlotteNCRedsFan:

RBI ability? Is that a thing? Unless you’re saying he doesn’t have the ability because there’s nobody on base, then I take it all back.

          • @Kaleb: Let’s be honest, Joey has struggled with RISP for a while now. Leading off might be the ticket to getting that part of his game back to normal. Facts are facts, lying about it does nobody any good. Doesn’t mean I’m not rooting with all my heart for the guy.

        • @CharlotteNCRedsFan: Yeah, I have to agree with Kaleb. RBI ability? The only way to get RBIs without depending on someone else to get on base first is to hit HRs. So unless you just want Votto to solo homerun nonstop, he’s not going to drive in a ton of runs.

Newsflash though.. Votto has the 4th most runs scored in the NL. So all that “RBI ability” you say he lost that I can only assume you think Phillips and Bruce have? Largely due to the fact that Votto keeps getting on base.

          • @ToddAlmighty: Thanks for making my point – that’s why I would like to see him leading off for awhile. Night guys. We’ll get them tomorrow. Go look up how JV has done with RISP for the last couple of weeks, I’m guessing it isn’t very pretty.

  62. Think positive!

  63. Cards losing 5-0 in 5th inning.

  64. I really don’t see how Bob can’t see some changes need to be made, he can’t be that blind or loyal.

  65. Nice of someone to borrow my name to post comments about how terrible this team is. I wonder which recently banned individual that might be?

  66. Why

  67. From 3 and 0 to ground out. And then of course the next batter gets a base hit.

  68. Slow, slower, slowest. Sundials man, sundials.

  69. For every squeezed call vs Reds pitching the Rangers have gotten the liberal strike zone. Very one sided.

  70. And the Reds go quietly and fail for the 27th time tonight.

  71. Todd Frazier is poop. Zach Cozart is Poop. Mez is poop. Xp is poop D-rob is poop

  72. The Rangers IF defense is very good.

  73. oh well.. Good game. Nice job of the bullpen.

    We will get them tomorrow!

    Go Reds!

    laus Deo

  74. Zero offense

  75. Silver Lining: how bout that bullpen??

  76. While I’ll be flying to Cali for vacation tomorrow. Hate I’m going to miss the game, hopefully you guys can get them going.

  77. For the record: anyone called “baseclogger” posting comments about how terrible the team is — it’s not me. I make fun of Dusty Baker and the Reds’ approach to hitting, but anything beyond that is coming from the imposter.

  78. Well, said I after taking a deep breath, we’ll get em tomorrow. Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

  79. I like tomorrow’s pitching matchup.

  80. Good luck. Milton needs to appear, not because of the team and their play, but management and medical are ridiculous in missing Cueto. This is an absolute j-o-k-e of a Major League Baseball Team, right now. Go ahead, challenge me on this. I welcome it. But, at the very least, be honest with yourself.

    • @wildwestLV: Umm, I like tomorrow’s pitching matchup. That’s honest.

    • @wildwestLV: No challenge here. I’m a very frustrated but loyal fan right now. I haven’t had a very good opinion of the medical staff since Votto’s injury last year. If I hear or read “But Johnny told us he didn’t need an MRI (or whatever the equivalent is) or he didn’t want one” I will scream. Who is the employer and who is the employee? Yes, maybe I’m jumping the gun but something isn’t right.

  81. Shelby Miller didn’t last 2 innings against the A’s.

  82. Ladies and gentlemen your 2011 Cincinnati Reds.

  83. Here is a positive if the Cardnials lose tonight they have dropped 5 out of 6 just like the Reds. The Problem is the Pirates have won 6 straight.

    • @Larry1980: The bigger problem is the Reds can’t score/beat anybody right now, which makes it hard for me to like any pitching matchup. The Rangers can score against anybody, and just about anybody can shut down the Reds.

    • @Larry1980: Looking for something positive tonight and here it is. Thanks.
