Minor League Player of the Day: Chad Reineke pitched 8 innings of 1-run baseball for Louisville. He surrendered just 4 hits, no walks, and struck out 4.
Chad Reineke allowed just 1 run on a solo homerun over 8 innings. He gave up just 4 hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out 4. Logan Ondrusek tossed the final scoreless inning (1 hit, no walks or strikeouts.)
With the bases loaded in the 6th inning and the score tied at 1-1, Denis Phipps (2-for-4, 2B, SB, R, 3 RBI) unclogged the bases with a 3-RBI double. Felix Perez (2-for-4, R) scored one of those three runs and finished the game with a pair of hits.
Donald Lutz (2-for-3, HBP, SB) was back in action for the first time since being optioned back to AA. Yorman Rodriguez (1-for-4) has hit safely in all 9 games he’s played in Pensacola, and now has an 18 game hitting streak between Bakersfield and Pensacola. Marquez Smith‘s only hit was his first homerun in a Blue Wahoo uniform (11 games). It was his 9th homerun of the season.
Daniel Renken allowed 3 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings while striking out 6 batters. Drew Hayes followed with two shutout innings and Loek Van Mil pitched a scoreless 9th.
Bakersfield 7 – Visalia 4
The Blaze were powered to victory with four homeruns. Juan Silva (1-for-3, 2 BB, 3 RBI) 3-run homerun in the top of the 7th inning gave Bakersfield a lead that they would not relinquish. Juan Duran, Steve Selsky, and Kyle Waldrop each added solo homeruns.
James Allen allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks over 5 innings. He struck out three. Jake Johnson allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief. Pat Doyle pitched two perfect innings of perfect base for the rarely used at the MLB level 2-inning save.
Zach Vincej’s bat has come alive this month, as he had 3 hits for the second game in a row. Vincej finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. He’s hitting .405/.500/.568 in 22 games this month. Daniel Pigott (2-for-4, RBI) was the only other Dragon with more than one hit.
Sal Romano pitched the first 6 innings of the shutout. He allowed just 3 hits, walked 3, hit a batter and struck out 5. Wandy Peralta, Kyle McMyne, and Ben Klimesh each pitched added a scoreless inning in relief.
Helena 7 – Billings 3 completion of Wednesday’s suspended game.
The 3-3 tie continued until the 11th inning, when Helena scored 4 runs off the Mustangs bullpen. Pedro Diaz started and allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1 over 4 innigs.
Reds 2013 first round draft pick Phillip Ervin (2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) had his 4th straight 2-hit game and hit his 2nd homerun of the year. Leadoff hitter Avain Rachal went 2-for-5 and scored twice.
Phillip Ervin (1-for-4, BB, R) has now reached base twice in all 6 professional games he’s played. Humberto Valor (2-for-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI) was the only Mustang with more than one hit.
Luke Moran allowed 3 runs, 5 hits, a walk, while striking out 3 in his 4-inning start.
Ronald Bueno (3-for-4, BB) reached base 4 times and scored 3 times. Logan Uxa (2-for-3, BB) hit two triples and knocked in three runs.
2013 2nd round pick Kevin Franklin (1-for-3, BB, 2B, R) reached twice and has now hit safely in his first 3 professional games. 2013 5th round pick Cory Thompson (.345/.406/.448) had his 6-game hitting streak snapped.
Coming off a great AZL debut last week, Franderlin Romero was roughed up for 8 runs in 1.2 innings last night. He allowed 10 hits but didn’t walk a batter, while striking out 2. Jakub Izold struck out 3 over 3.1 shutout innings. Oswaldo Mieres struck out 6 while allowing 2 runs over the final 3 innings.
