Ten years ago or more, I did everything I could to attend bobblehead games.  I still wish I could, but unfortunately the 4 hour drive to Cincinnati on a Wednesday night prevents me from getting the Latos one tonight!  So with that said, anyone willing to send one to their favorite Redleg Nation game thread editor will receive the admiration of this editor.  😉

Joking aside, the Reds will look to capture another series win by defeating the Rockies at home tonight.  The Reds blew a golden opportunity to gain ground last night, but will look to head into this weekend’s big series with the Cardinals by gaining some momentum with a win tonight.  So cheer on the Redlegs to go tonight and discuss the game here!

  1. Btw the latos bobble head looks more like a younger bill clinton

  2. This isn’t right, we should be able to hit there crappy pitcher too.

    • @George Culver: I’ll tell you that it sure looks like Garland is getting a much wider strike zone than the Reds pitchers. That doesn’t help, but they are swinging at low pitches and pounding it in the ground.

  3. I bet the beat reporters that cover the Reds are really going to grill Dusty after the game.

  4. NBA screws my Pacers and now Dusty screws the Reds…is it NFL season yet and my wonderful Colts….

  5. I actually fell sorry for Villireal as that may have been his 1 and only start in the bigs and you saw what happened.

  6. Can’t wait to hear what Marty has to say about tonight’s fiasco of a managed game.

  7. Watching Colorado’s offense pound a weak pitcher really makes you admire what Arroyo and Bailey did. And the game is still within reach.

  8. Good job by Simon to get out of that jam. Time for the Reds hitter to step it up. Go Reds!

  9. Really hate to see Votto looking this bad heading into a Cardinals series.

  10. Pathetic display of offense against a guy with a 6+ ERA. How many times have we seen the Reds get 4 runs in one inning then nothing else?

  11. Garland just went through our 3-4-5 hitters with ease.

    • Garland just went through our 3-4-5 hitters with ease.

You can’t be serious that Dusty left Villareal in to face the ROX 3-4-5 hitters for a third time after they absolutely clobbered him the first two times? Seriously?! 🙄

Let’s be clear. This wasn’t Villareal’s fault. He was not the 1st option or the 2nd option or the 3rd option to be called up from Louisville. The first three options were simply unavailable and Villareal happened to also be on the 40 man roster. Cingrani will be in Cincinnati for the next start and until Cueto comes off the DL. I would have been interested to see how Gallaraga or Reynolds would have performed if either of those two pitchers had been available and the Reds were willing to place one of them on te 40 man roster. Reineke was available (and in fact pitched tonight for Louisville) but the Reds opted to go with Villareal and his 5.03 ERA rather than Reineke and his 3.50 ERA since Villareal was already on the 40 man roster.

  12. At least the Reds won’t lose a game to the Pirates.

  13. I know this will never happen, but what if Walt calls Colorado and says:

    “I want Tulo and Cargo”

    The response is?

    • I know this will never happen, but what if Walt calls Colorado and says:

      “I want Tulo and Cargo”

      The response is?

The response is laughter and then ‘Oh, wait…you’re serious??’ then ‘GTFO’.

  14. But, but its only April, its only May, its only June…

    • But, but its only April, its only May, its only June…

      Yeah, it’s still early.

  15. Another pitch above the belt, another hit over the wall.

  16. This Reds bullpen is really pedestrian.

    • Maybe they should have called up Corky to pitch after all. Wasted game. It’s pretty bad to lose 2 of 43 at home to the Rox.

  17. I’m out! Pathetic!!!

  18. This game is on Cueto. The idea that this injury just came up yesterday is absolutely ridiculous.

    • @tgarretson82: Or this game is on the organization. They couldnt have decided to make decisions until last night.

    • @tgarretson82: It’s annoying that Cueto supposedly let the team know of his soreness on Saturday. If that’s the case, the prudent thing to do would be to hold back Cingrani from starting on Sunday. Pathetic that we had to call up Louisville’s fourth best starter.

This. Cueto didn’t just tell them today. It was after his last start. Cingrani should have been held back. It’s stupid.

  19. Choo is not a good CF

Love him at the top of the order.

  20. Reds now only have 2 relievers with ERAs below 3. That is not good.

  21. Might as well let Chapman get an inning in just to stay sharp.

  22. Why is Parra on the roster? Just awful

  23. I thought batting practice was BEFORE the game?

  24. Why do you pitch to Cargo and Tulo? Its beyond me.

  25. Nothing like being the brunt of a highlight reel of an opposing player.

  26. What a total stud!

  27. This reminds me of Game 4 in the NLDS last year. Felt like we had no chance coming into it because of pitching issues and we never really were much in that game.

  28. Why is Parra on this roster?

  29. Why waste Hoover’s arm on this game? It’s over. Let Parra clean up his own mess.

  30. Manny Parra. Schooling Villarreal on how the”pros” handle business in The Show.

  31. Hoover? Screw that, get Broxton’s big ol’ butt out there to work on some control.

  32. Tough game but the Reds bullpen is really being exposed as a problem. Losing Marshall sure doesn’t help.

  33. I’ve seen enough. Some move(s) need to be made or just hand the Cards the division. Parra with an era of 9.00. Making Villireal not feel so bad.

  34. I haven’t seen a beating this bad since Clubber Lang in Rocky 3. My prediction for this game … pain.

  35. Once again, the Reds’ crack medical staff don’t do their due diligence. How can you not manage Cueto’s condition better, given that he’s just been on the DL?

Once again, the Reds jump out to an early lead, only to have the other team come roaring back. I don’t blame Villareal. He should have been pulled once he got through the lineup one time. A rested bullpen should have taken care of things.

Dusty is horrible. These games are going to matter in September if it’s a three team race. You have to manage to WIN, and letting the foot off the gas like today, like in Pittsburgh Sunday, in Cleveland last Wednesday, and vs. Chicago two Sundays ago is in my eyes, inexcusable. With a little work from the manager, the Reds go 2-2 instead of 0-4 in these games. Not Dusty. So frustrating.

    • @jessecuster44: Good grief. Reds lose 12-4 with dreadful play all around and it’s Dusty’s fault for “letting the foot off the gas.” Sometimes a loss is just a loss, and sometimes Dusty has nothing to do with it.

  36. The Reds hiccup! can still hiccup! win hiccup! this hiccup! game hiccup! Go hiccup! Reds! hiccup!

  37. If you have MLB.TV, like I do, you can always go over and watch the D-Backs/Cards. Arizona up 1-0. But that won’t last long.

  38. Did Parra just strike out the side? Yes, yes he did.

  39. Let’s see: Since 1st inning, Rockies 11, Reds 1 (hit). … I hear Cardinals licking their chops, or at least their beaks.

  40. The good news for Tony Cingrani is that his return to the Reds will be something like the Second Coming, I’d imagine.

  41. I learned how people rationalize heavy drinking at sporting events between the 5th and 6th home run.

    Speaking of which, I’m off…

  42. Maybe the Cardinals will go 14 innings again.

  43. I would love for any reporter to ask Bob how he is okay with given the monies he has shelled out…..

  44. If you break Milton out in the game recap, you might as well honor him. Instead of just mentioning the bad and ugly, honor it. Give out a few bad awards. Call them, say, the Milties.
    Because this one was b-a-a-a-a-d.

  45. Cozart with a nice play. Rockies are barreling up Broxton so far…

  46. 26,665 turned out for tonight’s titanic struggle, 26,665.

  47. Back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back and we got us a tie game. Sound the Charge! Go Reds!!! Hiccup!!

  48. 12 runs on 20 hits. Nice, round numbers. Alright, nothing you can do but shake it off, get some rest, and get ready for Friday. GO REDS!

    • @wildwestLV: Perfect. This team does seem to have a short memory. Just wish a certain skipper could actually learn from his mistakes instead of clinging even tighter to his philosophy.

  49. Losing to another team over the .500 mark. 2010 Reds all over again?

  50. And just like that, George puts Lennie down. Game over.

  51. Hey stuff happens, right. When the going gets tough the tough get going. I fully expect the Reds will come out firing on all cylinders come Friday when the Cardinals fly into town. Go Reds!! Adios Amigos.

  52. Hopefully Leake can go a complete game Friday night. Anything less than 8IP and we might as well pack it up the way this bullpen has looked. A day off without having to travel should do our lineup a great service.

  53. Okay, I didn’t want to pull this out, this early in the season, but, given our injuries/Dusty/bad bounces/bad luck/metaphysical offense:

“It is only a beginning, always. The young must know it; the old must know it. It must always sustain us, because the greatness comes not when things go always good for you, but the greatness comes and you are really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes, because only if you have been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.” -Richard Nixon
