Game Thread: Indians at Reds (2013.05.28)

This just in:  Joey Votto does not like to strike out but does like to hit game winning homeruns.  Shin-Soo Choo likes to hit leadoff homeruns. Mat Latos does not like to lose.  Aroldis Chapman likes to make sure batters are awake by buzzing a stray pitch by their dome occassionally.  It’s all good as long as the Reds win.

The Reds look to polish off a 2-game sweep of Cleveland at home tonight before the two partake in 2 games in Cleveland starting tomorrow.  Let’s keep winning!

      • @Sergeant2: That actually is a lot higher than I thought looking at the stadium. I guess these last few days have conditioned me to either expect a huge crowd or bust.

    • @Mwv: I’m with ya on loving the National League. How can you be in the starting lineup and not have to bat? Mind boggling ain’t it.

Unfortunately, the DH is coming to the NL sooner rather than later.

  1. You gotta love it, the Reds got the run they gave up right back. Gotta be demoralizing for the Injun’s

  2. They should add a counter on the website for Pizza’s awarded so far this year.

  3. That Chris Welsh monologue about the Reds pitchers helping the local economy was one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard. Haha classic.

  4. 18 hits. Against a good pitching staff and a very good starter. Nice work.

  5. Two good wins for the Reds, very good wins. Now its off to Cleveland to complete the sweep. (Hopefully anyway). Go Reds!! Adios Amigos.

  6. Tyler Lyons has a career 4.30 ERA in the minors. And of course, he now has 2 games of 7 IP, 1 ER for the Cardinals. I swear there is a deal with the devil.

    • @Hank Aarons Teammate: I see stuff like that and all I can think is “No way they keep this up.” Cards have been doing what they’re doing on unsustainable performances. Is there really any chance ANY Cardinals garters make it to the All Star break with sub-2.00 ERAs let alone THREE of them? You think these rookies keep up this pace after the league gets a good amount of tape on them? I predict we sweep one of our next two home series against them, take over first place, and keep it for good.

  7. I cannot think of anything dumber (well, I can, but not many things) than a suicide squeeze with Joey Votto on deck. If the bunt’s missed, you now have a good chance of Votto not batting.

The squeeze with Robinson was different, as the bottom of the order followed him. That one made sense to me. This one…no.

It just seems like many times Baker forgets that Votto is the best hitter in the league.
