Game Thread: Reds at Phillies (2013.05.17)

The Reds have won 6 games in a row and I am convinced they will never lost again.

OK, that is highly unlikely but I wouldn’t mind seeing this winning streak continue on and last through this Phillies series.  I am still a little bitter over some of those games back in 2010 and especially how the 2010 NLDS played out.  Nothing would please me more than another sweep this week, the third consecutive by the Reds.

But first, Tony Cingrani must tame the Phillies lineup and the Reds must hit Cliff Lee in tonight’s game 1.  Cheer on the Reds to Go here!  Go Reds!

  1. Why didn’t Dusty double switch and bring in Paul in the pitcher’s spot and put Odrunsek in the 8 hole?

  2. Guy starts the inning at 104 pitches.. and we make 2 outs on 2 pitches. Hurts my mind.

  3. Todd Frazier is drifting dangerously into Ryan Freel/Adam Rosales territory. Sure he’s a fan favorite, hard worker and great guy, but the league seems to be figuring him out pretty quickly he needs to make adjustments at the plate. His fielding isn’t strong enough to warrant him starting if he continues at this pace.

  4. 2 pitches 2 outs sometimes the Reds hitters have zero hitting I.Q.

  5. Cozart’s at bat was the only one that made sense that inning. That is not a good sign.

  6. I am really curious to know if any of coaches or the manager reminded the hitters that Lee was at 104 pitches, and to make him work.

    • @Sergeant2: Sadly, I think it far more likely thatbLutz was reminded to be aggressive and not let Lee get ahead of him.

  7. After 3 innings its Cards 6 Brewers 0. The Brewers are really, really struggling big time.

  8. 43,129 turned out for tonight’s titanic struggle, 43,129. And Votto goes deep!!!! We got us a tie ball game ladies and germs.

  9. Got Mission Impossible 2 on for back ground noise. IMO the lesser of the four.

    Very nice Votto!

    Tied. New Ballgame!!

  10. Jay is just white hot right now. He’s taking those easy clean swings and the ball is jumping off his bat.

  11. I am very happy seeing Bruce coming around, but will be very very happy if there is more to come out in the HR department for Votto.

    go Reds!

  12. I really think this club is very close to exploding. When a few players return to norm, we will score plenty of runs. Good time to be a Reds fan!

  13. People need to stop calling out Reds fans for being pessimistic or shortsighted. We all know this is a very good team. One of the best in the league. But we want the World Series. You won’t beat Atlanta, STL or Texas playing at this level.

  14. Dusty isn’t really going to bring Broxton in for a single batter is he? In a game that could very well go to extras?

  15. The Reds are getting very little out of this Marshall investment. I wish they would leave him in there to try to clean this up. A walk after a good AB and a fluke hit. Its pretty obvious he is only trusted with LH batters. Disappointing.

  16. And Broxton promptly hits the next batter. Just a bad move to the bullpen. Going to take a whole lot to get out of this.

  17. For some reason Dusty just doesn’t like Marshall, why? Marshall is the second best pitcher in the bullpen, behind Chapman.

  18. Unbelievable. What an inning: 9 pitch walk, Howard infield hit, hit batter, error. Incredibly frustrating but also a lot of bad luck.

  19. Well, at least we know Baker can leave the bench to stick up for his players.

  20. Total implosion by the bullpen. You don’t see that too often.

    • @RedForever: Honestly, I don’t think that was an implosion. Some bad luck and a good AB from Michael Young. It isn’t like they hit the ball hard.

  21. Well, I guess I can’t get on Dusty’s case for only letting Broxton pitch to one or two batters now.

  22. I said this last season and I’ll say it again this year: When Dusty starts doing stuff, bad things happen.

  23. Hard to call it an implosion. More like beaten to death by a feather duster. Two errors, two weak ground balls, a walk, a sac fly and bad (albeit close ) call at plate, and a routine flyball. Not a sharply hit ball among them.

  24. Why sign Marshall for 7 mill to make him a LOOGY? The guy deserves more use. Its the one true head-scratcher in the pen, unless the use of Chapman draws your ire.

  25. And now the let-down of having Cozart hit in front of Votto…

  26. You never know, Cozart could swing into one. Weirder things have happened.
