Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….
St. Louis 2
W: J. Garcia (3-1)
L: B. Arroyo (2-3)
S: E. Mujica (5)
–Nice outing by Bronson Arroyo: 7 innings, two runs allowed on six hits and a walk. Ordinarily, that should be enough to get it done. Unfortunately, a two-run homer surrendered to Matt Holliday in the sixth was enough to beat him.
–Brandon Phillips had two hits. Shin-Soo Choo had a double and an RBI.
–Pretty poor offensive performance once again by the good guys. In the bottom of the ninth, with the Reds down by one, the 3-4-5 spots in the order came to the plate. Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, and Jay Bruce proceeded to strike out to end the game.
–The mighty Redlegs finish the month of April with a 15-13 record. Given all the injuries, I’m actually pretty pleased with that record.
–Not a great performance but, fortunately, it was a quick game (2 hours, 15 minutes). The series is tied and one, and the rubber match will be an afternoon tilt tomorrow. Let’s hope Homer Bailey can put together another good outing.
–Submitted without comment:
Cesar Izturis just pinch hit for the Reds, down by one run, in the eighth inning.
