The Reds host the Cubs tonight and I can not help but remember this little rant….

Marty Rips Cubs Fans

My favorite line from that is “… at the end of the day, THEY are still the CHICAGO CUBS!”  There is nothing better than watching Reds baseball and bashing the Chicago Cubs.  Discuss the game and bash the Cubs here.  Go Reds!

  1. It would have to be frustrating to watch Marmol and Gregg in your bullpen.

  2. Thank goodness Mesoraco isn’t batting 7th. Wouldn’t want to miss the chance to see Izturis win it.

  3. Worst bullpen in baseball and we can’t manufacture a run

  4. Ok I’m done. These 12+ inning games are really starting to bore me.

  5. We’ve only had 5 hits tonight.

  6. Worst bullpen in baseball and we can’t manufacture a run. It’s official–the Reds offense is diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder

  7. Reds really doing their best to waste some excellent pitching performances.

  8. We need a second thread.

  9. I think a four game series against the Fish, followed up by a three game stand against the Cubbies, puts your team back into Spring Training mode, or something.

  10. Hoover has some kind of magic dust for getting guys to swing at ball 4?

  11. Another K on ball 4. Stupid Cubs.

  12. Thom is talking about how the Reds are on pace to obliterate the single season strikeout total. It’s April. Talk to me in July.

  13. Somebody is going to have to win this game whether they want to or not.

  14. Now that was a nice K. Don’t nibble so much, Hoover.

  15. Nasty stuff by Hoover there. Wowzers.

  16. I liked those last two K’s much better.

  17. Hoover turning it up against the big boys. That’s good to see.

  18. Can’t complain about striking out the side.

  19. We may be okay, so long as the situation doesn’t call for Hoover to be yanked for Manny Parra tonight.

  20. Extra innings with the Marlins and now the Cubs. What does it say about the kind of year the Reds are going to have? The answer is zero. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be frustrated with our beloved Reds losing to or having to go extra innings to beat such lousy teams. Tis better to vent then have your blood pressure rise to dangerous levels.

  21. Marty is turning against Phillips now? If that’s true, he’s really a piece of work. I mean, one should focus criticism on Phillips, Bruce, and Votto—what’s really wrong with the team.

    • @Hank Aarons Teammate: He was making passing comments about his lack of putting the ball in play, that he’s been in a bit of a funk… which was only expectable given the other planet he was living on for awhile. Nowhere near his normal disdain for Bruce… just basic Marty snark.

  22. So do we get to recall Marshall at midnight?

  23. Tony Cingrani may have to pitch a complete game shutout tomorrow night.

  24. Clearly, Devin trying to impress Baker with the bunt attempt.

  25. I assume Thom was pooping at the top of the 12th?

  26. I’m more worried about this game having a long-term adverse effect on the bullpen than I am about losing the game.

    • I’m more worried about this game having a long-term adverse effect on the bullpen than I am about losing the game.

Why? nobody has been used that much out of the ordinary. That’s a Dusty Baker like statement. Let’s go ahead and lose today because I’m worried about what might happen the next three days. Well, hope your happy Simon just took care of it for you.

  27. Choo wins it with a 4 base HBP.

  28. Argh, nice catch there.

  29. Soriano makes the ordinary look extraordinary.

  30. When was the last time Soriano made a catch like that?

  31. Just put Corky on the mound all ready.

  32. Thom just said that Choo walked twice and was intentionally hit by pitch. I promise.

  33. Alright, I’ve had it with the woos. It’s amateurish, and the players must find it so annoying.

    • Alright, I’ve had it with the woos. It’s amateurish, and the players must find it so annoying.

It was a little out of control last inning.

  34. Good grief.

  35. We love innings. Innings, innings, innings. I am going to THROW UP.

  36. If I remember correctly, Choo is 0-3 and has been on base three times. Not bad for an off night.

  37. Ok, not Rolenesque.

  38. I just really am irritated by this game…time to do something else…

  39. Frazier is SO over this game.

    • Frazier is SO over this game.

My thoughts exactly. This team doesn’t seem to be as hungry as they should be.

  40. Votto, Cozart, Frazier. Unbelievable.

  41. Alfredo is too. Yikes.

  42. Goodnight.

  43. Well, at least we don’t have to worry about the bunt play now.

  44. Cowboy said talk about right down Broadway, that was right down Broadway.

  45. That was smart managing. Had to figure the Reds were still looking bunt and it was a 2-0 count so Simon would probably groove a fastball.

    • @preach: Yep, that was a smart move by the Cubs manager.

      • @preach: Yep, that was a smart move by the Cubs manager.

But….that would mean that NOT bunting is the smart move…..does not compute, does not compute….crackle, pop…..

      • @preach: Yep, that was a smart move by the Cubs manager.

Managers are allowed to make smart moves? They are not required to hit-and-run with the pitcher batting?

    • @preach: And you find a way to blame this deficit on the manager? Rich, just rich.

      • @preach: And you find a way to blame this deficit on the manager? Rich, just rich.

Actually, I was crediting the Cubs manager for the lead, not blaming anyone.

  46. More innings. More innings. Get two.

  47. We are a juggernaut offensively when we don’t actually need runs

  48. XP never says die.

  49. Votto is angry.

  50. That was BPs spot. A week ago, we’re all tied up.

  51. Yes………Reds have life.

  52. Hmmm. Bruce. Go get another one big guy.

  53. nice Brandon

  54. wow……

  55. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. TIED UP. Man. Of course.

  56. Marty doesn’t know what to do!!!! Bruce gets a two run double in the clutch!

  57. BRUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!

  58. All of a sudden this game is exciting. Only took 13 innings.

  59. this is killin’ me, but somehow, i love it

  60. There ya go Jay Bruce!!!!! Swing with authoritaaaaggghhhh! Sorry Super Todd, you may have to play longer. You wanna go home? Hit the d— ball

  61. Poor Todd can’t hit water with an oar tonight.

  62. Izturis with the hero swing!!!

  63. Reds win, Reds win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Craziest game of 2013.

  64. izturis, unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

  65. What a win…

  66. Give to Cesar that which is Cesars!

  67. Izturis !!! I know the back of his baseball card says he stinks, but I like him more than Valdez. (Not the first time I’ve said that.)

  68. Yes! Way to go Izturis. Now I can hate myself a little less in the morning for staying up.

  69. Stupid Cubs.

  70. Seriously… are they going to make an emergency bullpen call for tomorrow? LeCure, dead. Simon, dead. Hoover, dead. If Cingrani gets in trouble, it’ll be dicey.

  71. Alfredo Simon with a hard-fought “W”!!! Stupid stat…

  72. I think we lost Sarge tonight. Poor guy’s heart just couldn’t take it.

  73. Hannahan and Izturis contribute in one night what Cairo and Valdez could not in a season. Special props to Uncle Walt.

  74. What a crazy end of a game.

  75. Props to the pitching staff.

  76. Well I’ll be a flop eared mule, just when I thought all hope was lost, up steps Istoris (excuse the spelling) to win the game in the 13th inning. I smell a sweep of the Cubs on the horizon. Go Reds!! They just showed the Reds winning the game on ESPN it was awesome to see the Reds celebrating like crazy after winning a long hard fought battle. Go Reds!! Adios Amigos.

  77. Sure was nice to see Choo be the first to greet Izturis and be in the middle of the celebration. Hope he makes a call to his agent. He really seems to be enjoying himself. Beats Cleveland.

    • @preach: His agent is Scott Boras, who only cares about one thing: his own paycheck.

      • @pinson343: I hear ya, but I’m gonna daydream along with Preach. Choo calls Boras and says, “I don’t want to take a chance on being next year’s Michael Bourn, so let’s see if Walt wants to talk …”

  78. In my wildest dreams (and I’ve had plenty of them since I started following the Reds as a young boy in 1968) I never imagined I would see the quality of pitching this Reds staff delivers night after night. Just awesome!

  79. Well, I feel bad for anybody who went to bed unhappy because the Reds were going to lose. I’m glad I stayed up for the thrilling conclusion.
