High A

Bakersfield leads the five game series 2 – 1.

Modesto 12 – Bakersfield 1

Going on the road didn’t sit well with the Blaze, as they got whipped up on at Modesto….

Travis Mattair went 2-4 and accounted for the only Bakersfield run, with a homer.

The Blaze were out of this game early, giving up 4 in the first and 2 in the second… Stalin Gerson threw an inning plus, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits (3 homers) and 2 walks.

Blaine Howell, Brooks Pinckard, and Kyle McMyne all threw 2 scoreless innings each, but then Andrew Brackman gave up 6 runs in the 8th on 5 hits and 2 walks.

Game 4 is tonight at Modesto.

I’ve been a Reds fan since the late ’60’s, with my luck of being able to attend plenty of games at Riverfront during the BRM era. I was sitting in the Green Seats in the OF when Pete came home in ’84 and was in the Red seats when Glenn Braggs reached over the fence in ’90 to beat the Pirates. I have had many favorites from Jim Maloney to Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Jay Bruce.

  1. Third baseman Ernest Vasquez and right-handed pitcher James Walczak, who were both at Class A Dayton this season, have each been suspended for 50 games without pay after testing positive for an Amphetamine.

    STUPID! Just plain STUPID!

  2. The Blaze starting pitching is really wiped out. After Tim Crabbe & Josh Smith, its a crap shoot. Tanner Robles & Justice French are on the DL and all the other quality starters have been promoted. On the upside, Travis Mattair’s stock just continues to rise. That bodes well for the Blue Wahoos next year. On the downside, I just don’t see any future for Brackman after the Blaze playoff run is finished. He just got hammered again by A-ball hitters.
