Mike Costanzo went 2 for 3 with 2B. Henry Rodriguez went 2 for 4. Xavier Paul and Didi Gregorius each doubled.

Pedro Villarreal, 3.73 ERA, got the win as he went 7 IP and allowed 1 R on 8 H and 2 BB with 4 K. J. J. Hoover got his 5th save allowing 1 R over 2 IP of relief.

AA

Pensacola 6 – Jacksonville 2

Beau Mills went 2 for 4 with a HR and a 2B. Miguel Rojas went 2 for 3 with a BB. Andrew Means went 2 for 4. Billy Hamilton hit an inside the park HR. Bill Rhinehart and Mark Fleury each doubled.

Daniel Corcino, 3.05 ERA, got the win as he went 6.1 IP and allowed 1 R on 5 H and 1 BB with 6 K. Curtis Partch added 1.2 IP of scoreless relief.

High A

Rancho Cucamonga 7 – Bakersfield 5

Kurtis Muller went 3 for 4 with 2 2B. Devin Lohman went 2 for 5 with a HR. Travis Mattair and Juan Duran each homered. Steve Selsky and Danny Vicioso each doubled.

Daniel Renken, 4.77 ERA, got the loss as he went 7 IP and allowed 6 R on 7 H and 1 BB with 4 K. Andrew Brackman added 1 IP of scoreless relief.

Low A

Burlington 3 – Dayton 2 (10 Innings)

Nick O’Shea went 2 for 4 with a HR. Yorman Rodriguez went 2 for 5.

Wes Mugarian, 4.97 ERA, got no decision as he went 5 IP and allowed 2 R on 3 H and 2 BB with 5 K. Dan Jensen added 3 IP of scoreless relief. Ryan Kemp took the loss allowing an unearned run over 1.2 IP of relief.

Rookie

Billings 9 – Grand Junction 3

Seth Mejias-Brean went 3 for 4 with a 2B. Beau Amaral went 2 for 5 with a HR. Carlos Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a grand slam HR. Jesse Winker went 1 for 2 with a 2B and 2 BB. Gabriel Rosa doubled.

Robert Stephenson, 2.10 ERA, got the win as he went 5 IP and allowed 1 R on 3 H and 0 BB with 9 K. Bennett klimesh (1.1 IP) and Nick Routt (1.2 IP) each added scoreless relief outings.

AZL Reds – Postponed due to rain.

  1. There was a significant delay in the Blue Wahoos’ game after Hamilton’s inside-the-park home run for the groundscrew to repair the basepaths…

    It’s nice to see Stephenson gradually streching himself out with good results. He has shown nice control (33 SO & 8 BB in 25 IP) with a propensity to get ground balls if he doesn’t strike out the batter (1.93 GO/AO). Slowly but surely with the kid. He looks like a keeper.

    Henry Rodriguez has superb bat control. I don’t know what the Reds’ long-range (or even short-term) plans are for Rodriguez, but this little guy can flat out hit.

    This young man should be promoted as a pinch runner if nothing else in time for the playoffs!
