Our buddy Chris Jaffe points out that, ten thousand days ago, Marge Schott became the owner of the Cincinnati Reds. You can mark that occasion any way you’d like.

Also, on this day in 1958, the Reds scored 8 runs in the 9th to overcome a 6-run deficit to the Cubs, and, in 1893, Hall of Famer Edd Roush was born.

How many guys did Marmol walk in that one?

PS note the defensive changes in the bottom of the 9th.

The 10,000th day anniversary? I’m pretty sure the standard for marking that special occasion is dog poo.

I love the history of the game. More of this, please.

Also, the wife and I are celebrating Mother’s Day at the ballpark. It will be the first time at GABP for both of us. Does anyone have any tricks about where to park or advice about what to eat? We’re both excited about finally getting to see the Reds in person.

    Tweet from Reds HOF:

May 8, 1935: #Reds Hall of Fame catcher Ernie Lombardi hits 4 consecutive doubles off 4 different pitchers, beating the Phillies 15-4.

Noticed in the box score for the Cubs game that Harvey Haddix (famous for throwing 12 perfect innings in one game) served as a pinch runner. Never knew he played for the Reds.

@Bill Lack: Hoping to catch this on the ESPN highlights if there isn’t some guy for the Yankees with a broken shoelace that they need to interview.

@shadow32: Park across the river in Covington in the residential areas (it’s free), then take a nice leisurely stroll across the suspension bridge, maybe catch a quick brew at one of the bars opening up on the Banks. Enjoy!

Thank you, Swatch. I appreciate that very much. That’s exactly what we’ll do.

I love this site and I am eternally grateful to those who run it, but that sentence makes it sound like Edd Roush was born in 1958.
