I’m not gonna lie to you: it is my birthday, I’m sitting on the beach building a sand castle with my 2-year-old, and I just don’t know if I will get to the computer to put up a game thread later. I don’t even know, or care, if the Reds even have a game tonight. They are the worst team in baseball, and I love them, and I always will…but even I have my limits.

So I’m throwing up a game thread now via BlackBerry. Enjoy the game and discuss it here. I may check in later and I may not.

If I’m lucky, the name “Jerry Narron” won’t even cross my mind tonight….

That link isn’t quite working preach…

But to end the suspense, it was Victor Santos.

This does absolutely, positively nothing…other than please Marty Effing Brennaman for 5 mintues.

Stone will get blasted, as he did last year, and the Reds will continue to suck eggs.

Happy birthday, Chad. Building a sand castle with your child sounds like a near-perfect way to spend it. Build a big one and enjoy.

A few random thoughts. Jr. should retire as a Red,period. How about drafting pitching only for the next three years. Has anyone heard from Zach Cooper? I miss his posts. What a poet! Get well wishes to Scott Duff.

I should have known better. I check in and discover that they called up Ricky Stone. Ugh.

Raise your hands if anyone is surprised that Victor Santos wasn’t very good. It shows that it may not be a very good idea to evaluate players solely on the basis of spring training stats.

    Okay, I’m out of here.

I had no idea Marty Brennaman was a big fan of Ricky Stone. But he is.

Arroyo seems to have something good going. Just needs to avoid the 4 to 6-run-inning meltdown that occasionally plagues him.

Go Josh Hamilton. 2-run homer gives the Reds their first runs here in the 6th. 2-1 Reds.

  9. DevilsAdvocate

And it’s about time that Thompson gave up some runs, too.

Yeah! That’s the way to do it, Bronson!

K’s Taguchi after 6 straight foul balls on a full count.

Unfortunately, his pitchcount is over 100, and with his recent history I’d say he’s done for the night (before he melts down). Bring on Ricky Stone! 😮

McBeth is in the game, gives up a bloop double to lead off the eighth. Marty opines, “If McBeth had any luck at all it would be bad – he gives up more soft hits than anyone else on this pitching staff.”

    What’s done cannot be undone.

  12. DevilsAdvocate

A followup single to Pujols, and McBeth is out in favor of Coutlangus. 1st & 3rd, no out for professional oaf Chris Duncan.

Damn, I HATE that Ryan Franklin is somehow doing spectacularly well as a Cardinal. 1.43 ERA on the year. Disgusting.

  14. DevilsAdvocate

What is up with Cardinal players and wearing flat-as-a-board baseballcap brims?

Only Tony LaRussa could use more pitchers than Narron, even after a solid outing by the starter. Isringhausen is the 7th STL pitcher to appear – 8th if you count using Reyes as a pinch-hitter.

4-2 final. The Reds are now on pace to lose 100 games.

    What else can you say?

  17. GregD

I thought they were on pace for 102 a week ago…so 100 is an improvement!
