Durham 5, Louisville 4 10 innings

23 year-old Joey Votto (Reds #2 – 2002) continues his hot hitting going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. He is now hitting .321/.436/.505.

Chattanooga 7, Mississippi 6

26 year-old Enrique Cruz went 2 for 2 with a 2B, HR, BB, and 3 RBI. He is hitting .253/.320/.376.

24 year-old Paul Janish went 2 for 5 with a R and an RBI. He is now hitting. 264/.373/.381. I heard somewhere that his glove is ready now, but they are concerned about his hitting. If he shows this kind of patience at the ML level he will be valuable….not to mention cheap.

24 year-old DOTF boy Calvin Medlock tossed 2 innings giving up 3 H while recording 3 Ks.

The other DOTF boy at Chattanooga, 25 year old Carlos Guevara, pitched an inning giving up one hit.

Sarasota & Fort Myers PPD

Dayton 5, Great Lakes 2

21 year-old Redleg Nation Minor League Pitcher of the Month Sean Watson (Reds #2 2006) continued his dominance at Dayton. Watson pitched 6.1 IP giving up 5 H, an ER, and a BB. Watson, who now sports a 1.81 ERA, struck out 5.

  1. With the injuries to starting 1b Jason Giambi and now backup 1b Mientkiewicz – both possible season-enders, with torn foot tissue for Giambi and a broken wrist/concussion for Mientkiewicz – that may amp up the demand for either Hatteberg or Conine. Wouldn’t that be a nice way to open up a spot for Votto . . .

  2. I really hope the Reds trade all of the players not part of 2008 over the season to bring up Votto, Livingston, Bailey, and possibly others. Would love to get something for Lohse, Hatteberg, and Conine. Trading Milton would be nice too, but that’s just dreaming!

Also love to see them trade Valentine – he’s a nice pinch hotter but he’s a below average catcher which necessitates the 3 catcher set-up. Trading him would thankfully end that arrangement!

  3. “Valentine” and “pinch hotter” – are those Freudian slips when referring to the Latin Love Machine? 😆 😆
