Game Thread: Rockies at Reds — 2007.05.06

So much for a homestand that would get this team back on the right track. The Reds need to win today just to avoid a sweep at the hands of the hapless Colorado Rockies. Sheesh.

I don’t really know what else to say, other than:

  1. How about “let’s try Brad Salmon as the primary setup guy in close/late games.”

  2. If anyone is interested, I posted the latest Down on the Farm report beneath the game thread. Some very exciting updates on Richie Gardner and Chris Valaika.

Valaika is going to be a stud, especially if he can play SS at the higher levels (I hear he is probably going to be a 2B).

  3. Lineup for the Reds:

    Ryan Freel 2b
    Scott Hatteberg 1b
    Ken Griffey Jr. rf
    Edwin Encarnacion 3b
    Adam Dunn lf
    Alex Gonzalez ss
    Josh Hamilton cf
    David Ross c
    Bronson Arroyo p

  4. And for that other team:

    Willy Taveras CF
    Troy Tulowitzki ss
    Matt Holliday lf
    Todd Helton 1b
    Garrett Atkins 3b
    Brad Hawpe RF
    Chris Iannetta c
    Jamey Carroll 2b
    Josh Fogg p

  5. How about that Hamilton kid eh?

…so what are the odds on Hamilton being traded for some “veteran” relievers?

  6. I’d rather take my chances on turning Hamilton into a reliever. The kid can do it all.

I’ve been watching sports for a long time, and I’ve never seen anything like this Hamilton story. I’ve never seen anything remotely close. Its completely unbelievable.

  7. If Krivsky could only strike gold with an outcast reliever like he has with Phillips and Hamilton.

  8. Shhhhhh! Don’t say anything but the bullpen was effective today.

Arroyo evens his record at 2-2!

  9. Classic Dunn:

“It’s Josh Hamilton’s world; I’m just trying to live in it,” said Dunn.

    From The game wrapup.

  10. I’m not sure I understand how Weathers got the save in this game…? Was the tying run in the on-deck circle at one point or something?

And I love that Josh Hamilton is off to such a great start. But more than a month in the season, is it really necessary to mention his “story” in every game?

  11. when weathers entered the game with 2 out in the 8th, there were men on 1st and 3rd and the Reds led 7-3. That means the tying run was on deck when he entered.

  12. I don’t know what else you write about, when a dude has 16 total bases in a series. I still find the fact that he’s performing at this level, after not playing baseball for 4 years and never playing in the majors, incredibly newsworthy. Hell, I thought it was a big deal with Jose Rijo came back, too.
