22 year-old starting pitcher James Avery (Reds #5 – 2005) pitched 6 innings, giving up just 2 H, 1 BB, and 1 ER while striking out 3. In two starts he has thrown 11 IP, giving up 9 H, 2 BB, with 8 Ks and a 3.60 ERA. Last year at Sarasota, Avery notched 86 Ks in 130 IP with 48 BB, 136 H and a 4.43 ERA.

23 year-old right fielder Cody Strait (Reds #12 – 2004) from Beaumont, Texas went 2 for 3 with a 2B, 2 R, and an RBI. Last year at Sarasota, he hit .258/.325/.452 in 525 PAs. He stole 50 bases in 59 attempts (85%).

19 year-old right fielder, Jay Bruce (Reds #1 – 2005) also from Beaumont, Texas, went 1 for 3 with a BB. For the season he is hitting .370/.433/.481

24 year-old starting pitcher Ramon Ramirez pitched 5 innings, giving up just 2 H, 2 BB, and 0 ER. Ramirez, from Cagua, Venezuala, struck out 4. So far this season, he hasn’t allowed a run in 8.2 IP.

    Interesting that they seem to be using Bo as a middle reliever. But if Sarasota is anything like Dayton, he’ll probably be used in a number of different roles. He did middle, set up and closed last year.
