According to Lance McAlister’s blog, Paul Wilson has been released.

Anyone surprised?

About The Author

I've been a Reds fan since the late '60's, with my luck of being able to attend plenty of games at Riverfront during the BRM era. I was sitting in the Green Seats in the OF when Pete came home in '84 and was in the Red seats when Glenn Braggs reached over the fence in '90 to beat the Pirates. I have had many favorites from Jim Maloney to Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Jay Bruce.

i’m surprised they didn’t send him to AAA, but maybe they asked him what he wanted and he asked to be released to try to catch on with someone else.

I think that Fay said that he had an out in his contract..plus he’s basically shown nothing this spring. Why take up a AAA spot?

I’m not surprised, and I’m happy that this happened soon enough to allow Wilson to catch on elsewhere. Seems like a good guy. At least the Reds were honest with him that there just wasn’t a roster spot for him.

The Lullville starting staff is set. They didn’t have room for Wilson to rehab down there. And what was the need? They already have three guys vying for the No. 5 slot.

    Harsh realities of the game.

I’m sure he’d rather start for another AAA than relieve in Louisville, but I’ve thought for a few years now that he should finish his career in the bullpen. He’s never pitched a full season as a starter.

Wilson is done, he is a great guy, but that is baseball. I am glad he is not taking a roster spot from good young talent.
