Doug over at Reds Minor Leagues gives us a Jay Bruce update:

Yesterday the Louisville Bats played a game against the Red Sox AAA team and Curt Schilling was getting some work there. In the 5th inning Jay Bruce took him deep for a home run.

Sure, it doesn’t mean anything, but I think it’s kinda cool.

About The Author

I've been a Reds fan since the late '60's, with my luck of being able to attend plenty of games at Riverfront during the BRM era. I was sitting in the Green Seats in the OF when Pete came home in '84 and was in the Red seats when Glenn Braggs reached over the fence in '90 to beat the Pirates. I have had many favorites from Jim Maloney to Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Jay Bruce.

I promise you it meant something to Jay and Curt. Next time up Jay may know what it’s like to get plunked by Curt Schilling.

First of many against major-league pitchers, I hope!

This is from Curt Schillings blog on the game.
A pretty good sized kid puts a real good swing on a 2-0 fastball that’s up on the outer half, and drives it over the wall in left for an opposite field home run. I’ll claim the wind helped, but he hit the ball a ton.
That pretty good sized kid was Jay Bruce, and not only did he hit a HR, he took it opposite field. That is power.
