Marc Lancaster has the rosters for this year’s instructional league. Some interesting names on there.

Glad to see my two friends, Kevin Haltiwanger and Bo Lanier on the list.

Can someone explain exactly what the point of the Instructional League is? Just to “work on” some part of their game, I would assume?

Does anyone know how long the instructional league lasts?

The Fall Instructional League is mostly used for, well, instruction. Coaches work with pitchers on mechanical adjustments, or experimentation with learning new pitches. Position players work on plate discipline, baserunning, or learning new defensive positions. And probably everybody runs drills on fundamentals. Then the teams play some very informal games against each other to test their new skills on the battlefield, so to speak.

    That’s how I understand it.

I think it lasts about a month.
