Thank you Chris, for filling in for me, yesterday! I am leaving for vacation tonight, and Chris has agreed to fill in for me in my absence.

August 4, 2005

Columbus 4, Louisville 2

Dane Sardinha went 2 for 3 with a HR, R, 2 RBI and BB. The 26 year old 2nd round pick from 1997 (has it been that long?) hit his 10th homer of the year he is now hitting .225/.288/..363

Chattanooga 7, Carolina 6

Lead off hitter and speedy CF Javon Moran went 2 for 4 with a BB, 3 R, and 1 SB. Since being called up the 22 (23 in September) year old is hitting .375/.400/.479 in 50 PAs. He hasn’t shown much power or patience in his minor league career, but he can certainly hit for average. From a Centerfielder that steals bases at a pretty good rate, that might work out. Is this Griffey’s replacement?

Phil Dumatrait was hit pretty hard. In 4 innings the 24 year-old 8 H, 6 ER, and 3 BB. He struck out 3. IN 19 games since coming back from surgery he has a 3.64 ERA, but he only has 73 Ks in 101 innings while walking 54.

Brevard County 7, Sarasota 3

21 (22 in September) year old Catcher Miquel Perez went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. in 297 PA he is hitting .267/.306/.345.

Dayton 10, Ft. Wayne 5

Jeremiah Piepkorn went 3 for 5 with 2 HR, 3 R, and 4 RBI. in 334 PAs this year he has 19 HR, 21 2B, 27 BB. He is hitting .264/.332/.502.

Helena 10 Billings 4

Speedy CF Brandon Roberts, a 7th round pick in 2005 went 1 for 4 with a SB. He is now hitting .329/.387/.474 in his first 164 PAs. Amazingly he has 22 SB with only 1 CS. In two years of College he was 50 for 62. Is this Griffey’s replacement?

GCL Red Sox 4, GCL Reds 3

Speedy CF and 1st round pick Jay Bruce went 1 for 4 with a 3B, R, and 2 RBI. The 18 year old is now hitting .260/.296/.442. Is this Griffey’s replacement?

Oops I should clarify. Chris W filled in, in my abscence. As he will while I am on vacation.

Just a minor league note…the day before I’m going to Florida and hoped to see him pitch, Travis Wood was promoted to Billings. My luck, huh?

Also, I wonder what Piepkorn has to do to get promoted? He’s been Dayton’s best power hitter all season, though he is a tad old for the level, but he signed as an undrafted FA. He’s also been versatile playing multiple positions (OF and 3B)

Have they mishandled Sardinha in much the same way the mishandled Dan Wilson?
