Better late than never, right? All of the editors here at Redleg Nation cast their votes at the start of the month and it completely slipped my mind to actually post the winners here. Hitter of the Month In August, Juan Francisco hit .364/.371/.667 in 16 games at Triple – A Louisville. During July, I doubt many of us would have predicted that Arroyo would be in the running for August’s POTM honors. Well, in 6 starts, all Bronson did was put up a 1.99 ERA over 45.1 innings (which led the team). [...] Redleg Nation would like to congratulate our Player of the Month for July: Joey Votto. Votto is the first two-time winner of the award in 2009, and his July was outstanding. Votto played in 27 games, hitting .324/.352/.598, with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 7 HR, and 13 RBI. I’m going to be honest: this was the worst field of candidates for a monthly award since we began doing these a couple of years ago. Despite missing a few games with a thumb injury, Brandon Phillips rebounded from a miserable April to post a fantastic May. For the month, everyone’s favorite second baseman batted .352 with an on-base percentage of .392, while slugging .682. Hitter of the Month: In the month of May alone, Heisey hit .404/.461/.614 with 4 homeruns and 17 rbis. Votto hit .346 with an on-base percentage of .411 and a slugging percentage of .568. He hit 3 homers and drove in 20 RBI, second only to Albert Pujols in that category. Hitter of the Month: Rosales hit .431/.479/.754 in 65 at-bats in Triple A Louisville in April. He had 12 extra-base hits with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 homeruns. In a repeat of Votto’s late-season heroics in 2007, Votto had a superb August, hitting .382 with a .440 OBP and a slugging percentage of .513. Hitter: Kevin Barker Redleg Nation would like to congratulate our Player of the Month for July, Adam Dunn. Adam had an excellent month of July, hitting .310/.381/.762/1.143 for the month. In 84 ABs, he scored 16 runs, knocked in 26, walked 10 times, had 2 doubles and 12 homers. Adam is our first repeat POTM winner in 2008.
