Reds at Yankees (July 19, 2014)

The Reds and Yankees kick off an afternoon tilt at Yankee Stadium today. The Reds will send All-Star Alfredo Simon to the mound today to face former Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy. The last time the Reds faced McCarthy they scored 5 runs on 9 hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Let’s hope for a repeat of that today by the Reds.

  1. I’ve got pneumonia. This ain’t the rest I needed. Sad part is, I don’t even feel like drinking.

    • I grant you these have been two frustrating losses, but why would the Reds have a team meeting after only two games into the “second half” of the season, especially coming off a two-week period in which they cut the division-leading Brewers’ lead by six games?

    • Averages 6.2 K/inning and he strikes out 9 in 6 against our guys. Pathetic.

Every wart the Reds have is being exposed today.

  2. This is one of the worst Reds performances of the season. Just a bad game all around. It happens, but a missed chance to gain ground with Brewers going against the Nats and Cards against the Dodgers.

  3. Steve,

Is there any legitimate reason why Zack Cozart bats 2nd in a major league lineup? Just…why?

    • Because at least one other major league manager once thought it was a good idea. That’s the typical defense of Price’s irrational decisions.

  4. It was suggested the team might have a closed-door meeting after this game. I can imagine how that might go:

    “Anyone have any ideas?”
“Uh… yeah… let’s try swinging a little harder and stop taking so many pitches.”
    “Ok, great. Meeting adjourned.”

  5. Okay, hopefully JC can prevent a sweep and the guys get well when they get home. Ugly baseball.

      • Understand. It’s the 2014 Reds: at best, they look like a slightly above average team; at worst, they look like they couldn’t beat the ’62 Mets. Hopefully the former will show up in Milwaukee.

I mistakenly thought they were home for that series. Oh well, we have Front Row Amy to look at next week; so things aren’t totally bad.
