Pirates at Reds (July 11, 2014)

Despite all the previous reports, it appears as if the Reds will not be signing LeBron James to play for them this season. There are also no truth to the rumors that any editors here at Redleg Nation will be joining the Reds to fill in for the many injuries that have taken place recently*.

But what the Reds do have in front of them is a 3-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates to close out the first half of the season. The Reds have done an amazing job at getting themselves back into the division race by playing some outstanding baseball of late and now the club needs to finish it off with a bang heading to the break by taking at least 2 of 3 against the Pirates.

Get it done Reds, and lets use the All-Star break to rest and recover. Discuss the game here Reds fans! Go Reds!

Lineup:
1. Hamilton CF
2. Cozart SS
3. Frazier 3B
4. Bruce 1B
5. Mesoraco C
6. Ludwick LF
7. Heisey RF
8. Santiago 2B
9. Latos P

*Although in our own minds we each probably think we could play.

  1. Two multi-run come from behind wins in a week! It seems fair that this has to even out a little more given the number of injuries the Reds have sustained.

    • He’s not a good player. Tonight though, he was a great player. That’s not a knock against him or anything, it’s just facts thus far and it makes it all the more sweeter when he plays so well.

        • Lot of guys picked us up tonight. Just look through this game thread alone, all the harsh comments about guys who later on rallied for us. If you get enough little great moments in the same inning you can make some magic.

        • He may not be a massive downgrade from Phillips, at least they wont bat him4th. The problem is Ramon cant play 3rd if he is at 2B, moving Todd to 1B. Please no more Bruce at 1st, he really led to being behind in the first place. There should be some first baseman out there.

  2. Santiago…Heisey…Pena…Cozart…Partch…This is the kind of magic this team needs to power through this injury spell. How much fun was that…

  3. You know, I am in the Chatman should be a starter camp, but on a night like this, after the comeback, I really wanted this win, and it was a really, really, nice feeling knowing Chatman was coming in to pitch the ninth.

  4. Wow! O Wow! Whatta game, whatta game, whatta game. Been awhile since I have gotten so excited watching a ballgame. One things for sure, the big crowd at the old ball orchard are going home happy tonight. Can’t sweep unless you win the first game, and you can’t get swept if you win the first game. Awesome win tonight. Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

    • It’s also terribly hard to get swept when one Mr. Cueto is on the back end of the series.. and it’s a lot easier to sweep when he’s there too. Can’t wait.

  5. This is special. Total team effort from players who don’t see a lot of prime time. Chapman creates history. Amazing!

  6. They need to stop this foolishness of playing people out of position at first base, go ahead and start Lutz the next two games there so they can have a legitimate first baseman and play Bruce in RF where he belongs and then work things out after the AS break.

  7. No other team in MLB has a weapon like Chapman at the end of their pen – nobody – no other closet comes close to the stuff he has – forget mentioning him in any future trade talks – it’s rediculous to do so

      • Charlotte we have the privilege of seeing or listening to it every night. This what myths are made of. Two more pages to do this week then some rest. I couldn’t believe what I was watching just as the script called for.

  8. I am the poster boy for “keep it in perspective” but anyone who talks numbers tonight didn’t just watch that game. Go have a drink guys! This was some fun F’ing baseball!

    • To be fair it’s not really a kind of baseball. I mean we fell behind 5-1 then rallied late to win 6-5. Nobody -wants- to have to do that to win a game. It’s just really fun when it does happen and it makes you believe in the magic for a little bit.

    • Ludwicks been alright for the last two months. It’s not that we couldn’t improve on our LF production, but anyone we move for should be able to play the infield as well because Luddy has some value. He’s one of the few above replacement hitters in our lineup right now.

  9. Ludwick and Heisey have been inconsistent this year time to step up your going to get playing time.

  10. Bullpen starting to take shape pretty good when hoover is least guy yo trust.Key will be health of team. Starting pitching good when healthy. to me ludwick heisey and cozart are keys. Really like what santiago is giving us we must find that two hole hitter. like to see bruce continue to use left side of field when they put shift on must get them out of it . cozart needs to learn how to hit behind runner especially if its hamilton.
