Look at Opening Day

Welcome back inside the vault. This week we celebrate Cincinnati’s unique holiday – Opening Day.
First look at a hometown legend in the making.

Why wouldn’t it surprise me to see this happen again this year?

This photo captured the apex of optimism about the Reds, for about a 10 year period. Dante Bichette, also pictured.

Like I said, we thought the Reds had CF solved for a decade. Two years later, these guys played the bulk of the season there.

Stuff like this happened. Joey Hamilton started on Opening Day.

Go Away Rain! Cincinnati Enquirer/Bob Free April 12, 1955: General manager Gabe Paul, field manager Birdie Tebbetts and president Powell Crosley Jr., left to right, “brass” of the Cincinnati Redlegs, gingerly stepped out of the dugout to feel for rain yesterday at Crosley Field. The Crosley luck held; the Reds got their opener in.

At least it was cheap.

Entry to the 1957 opener – $1. See the full ticket stub gallery at
From the same year – this guy’s seat may have cost $2.20.

Baseball is about fathers…

…and sons.

And putting strange guys on center stage.

Bonus coverage!

I have no earthly idea.

Let’s hope for another walkoff.

  1. I wish baseball would return the honor of the Reds being the first game. This was really cool thanks

    • Its only fair. Seems like all sports higher-ups hate Cincinnati. If Yankees had been the first team, you can bet they’d open the season a week before everyone else.

  2. Looking for some fellow Reds fans to watch opening day in Charleston, SC. Every third person I meet in Charleston is from Ohio. Hopefully some of those folks are Reds fans! Any takers?

  3. Bryan just confirmed on pregame interview that Bernadina made the 25 man roster. Still no 40 man roster move announced that I can fund.

  4. Jerry Crasnick via twitter…
Infielder Chris Nelson opted out of his contract with the #reds and requested his release.

  5. Louisville Bats via twitter…
Price announces that Trevor Bell and Roger Bernadina have made the #Reds 25-man roster. Soto as well. Mesoraco will start season on DL and Tucker Barnhart has made Reds roster. No moves on the 40 man roster announced that I could find for the 3 new additions to the 25 man roster.
