There has been no baseball news and I was a bit bored and I started fussing around with numbers and I found something out. Here it is.
Reds OPS vs. LHP: .709 (NL avg. is .697)
Reds OPS vs. RHP: .722 (NL avg. is .706)
So, last year, the reds were 13 points better than average against lefties and 16 points better than average against righties. I would not have guessed that.
This is probably all moot coming as it does amid news from Jocketty that the Reds may well be done for the offseason, but I kept thinking the Reds needed a right-handed bat when, maybe, they just need a bat. I haven’t delved deeply enough, but I’d guess that the LHBs, being the best hitters on the team, were great against righties and good against lefties and the RHBs were poor against righties and good against lefties, and so it all balanced out.
It’s not much, but it’s slow right now, and I thought it was interesting.
