Minor League Player of the Day: Chad Rogers allowed just 3 hits over 7 innings for his second straight start. He allowed just one run, the three hits and two walks while striking out four.

AAA
Louisville 2 – Columbus 1

Chad Rogers allowed just one run, three hits and two walks over 7 innings while striking out four. Curtis Partch and Jose Diaz combined to keep the Clippers off the board over the final two innings.

Derrick Robinson and Neftali Soto each had a pair of hits. Henry Rodriguez singled, walked and stole second base twice. Corky Miller is back with the Bats on a rehab assignment and went 1-for-2 with a walk as the team’s DH.

Billy Hamilton only reached once on a first inning single, stole 2nd and 3rd base (75th of the year) but was left stranded 90 feet from home plate.

AA
Mobile 2 – Pensacola 1

Carlos Contreras allowed a run, 3 hits, 4 walks, hit a batter and struck out 2 in 5.1 innings. While wild in the game, the lone run he allowed came on a solo homerun. Parker Frazier (1.1 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K) surrendered the other run in the 7th inning.

Donald Lutz (2-for-4) hit a pair of doubles. Yorman Rodriguez (1-for-4) doubled and scored the only Pensacola run. Redleg Nation Spotlight Player Tucker Barnhart (1-for-4) knocked in Rodriguez and also threw out a runner trying to steal second base.


High A
Bakersfield 4 – Stockton 1

The Bakersfield Blaze pitching staff combined to throw a 1-hitter. James Allen allowed just one run and one hit (a solo homerun) over 6 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 5. Ben Klimesh, Carlos Gonzalez, and Pat Doyle each tossed a shutout inning.

Juan Silverio (2-for-4) and Juan Duran (1-for-4) hit back-to-back solo jacks in the 5th inning, pushing the Blaze lead to 4-1. Juan Perez (2-for-4) had a pair of singles, an RBI and stole FOUR bases. Brent Peterson (2-for-4) also had a pair of singles.

Low A
Great Lakes 3 – Dayton 0

Sal Romano allowed all 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, while striking out one over 5 innings. Joel Bender pitched the final 3 scoreless frames, holding the Loons hitless while walking 1 and striking out 2.

Daniel Pigott reached base three times as he had two of the Dragons’ 5 hits and walked once.

Rookie
Great Falls 7 – Billings 5

Junior Morillo allowed 5 runs, 7 hits, but didn’t walked a batter and struck out 2 over his 4-inning start.

With the Arizona League season over, 2013 9th round pick Chad Jones was promoted to Billings and made his Pioneer League debut last night. In his inning of work, he faced 5 batters and struck out 3 of them. The inning went like this: strikeout, single (advanced to 2nd base on throwing error), walk, strikeout, strikeout.

All of Billings runs came in the final two innings. No player had more than 1 hit nor reached base more than once. Aristides Aquino (1-for-4) delivered a 3-run homerun in the 8th inning.

The AZL Reds season ended on Wednesday. They finished with a losing record in each halves of the AZL season and did not qualify for the playoffs.

  1. Dayton was eliminated from playoff contention last night.

    Chad Rogers is a pretty impressive 23 year old pitcher in the system that we don’t talk near enough about. Take a look at his numbers. I expect him to climb pretty high on the prospect list this off season.
