Game Thread: Brewers at Reds (2013.08.23)

After an outstanding series against the Diamondbacks that saw the Reds take 3 of 4, the Reds look to continue that momentum into a series against the Brewers.  The Reds are 5-1 on the season against the Brewers at Great American Ballpark and really need to improve on that record even more if the club wants to keep pace and/or catch the Cardinals and Pirates in the division.  (Of course the Reds will have their chance to do that head to head soon enough)

Homer Bailey will be making his second consecutive start against the Brewers tonight.  In his last outing, he went 8 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits to pick up the win for the Reds.  He will face Yovani Gallardo, whose last outing was also against the Reds and was equally impressive.  Gallardo went 6.1 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks.  In fact, Gallardo has pitched 12.1 scoreless innings against the Reds in his last 2 starts against the club, allowing only 6 hits in those 2 games.  Let’s hope tonight means the Reds are due!

Discuss the game here and cheer on the Reds!

    • Votto has dropped 11 points in his average in the last month.

Maybe we should move him into the 2-hole to get him going?

  1. Kris Davis hits a home run on a fastball right down the middle. Votto strikes out on the same pitch. Somethings not right here.

  2. Well, that sucked. A bullpen game at home. The Brewers have a bad bullpen, the Reds is supposed to be good. But why use up your best relievers in a tie game ? Save them for later in the weekend, when the games might not be so close.

That’s incorrect. The Brewers bullpen is good.

  3. Like I said before, the Reds will win the next two, that’s just the way this team rolls. We’ll get em Sat. and Sunday. Don’t worry be happy (drinking a lot of Burger Beer will help). And don’t forget to get some Husman potato chips “When The Chips Are Down Be Sure Their Husman’s Husman Potato Chips” Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

  4. Votto didn’t lose this game (although he certainly didn’t do a darn thing to win it). It is the failure to adjust to certain hitters. Why do we continue to let the same players beat us? I don’t know. Probably has something to do with coaching but someone mentioned the catcher earlier. I just think there are far too many flaws that point to managerial deficiencies to ignore. But we are stuck so, whatever, lets just blame Votto for not being 2010 Votto all the time.

      • @AnnapolisHoosier: It is the same bullpen that ran off a ridiculous scoreless streak.Price will get them back on track.I am more worried about offense.

Not the same bullpen as Broxton was throwing really well. With him being out for the year I think they are short an arm. I would like to see them make a deal.

  5. I just wish Homer’s Jekyll and Hyde ways would stop. He is so consistently inconsistent. When he’s on…he pitches like he is deserving of an article on ESPN calling him one of the best pitchers in baseball.

    When he’s off….

He gave up 3 runs in six innings. That’s hardly off.

  6. “We won the battle, but may have lost the war against Arizona.”

“We wanted to get the kid in there with a cushion.”

    Ladies and gentlemen….our manager.

  7. I’m tired of all the Votto bashing!!! Yes the error should be his not frazier’s! Look the ball in the glove!!! I think I heard a stat that Bruce is batting just about.200 in august for goodness sake. Correct me if I am wrong good ppl. How is this team even in the playoff hunt with this many injuries and issues??? They just can never get it going and go on the tear needed to with the division. It’s mind blowing. Sometimes they just look awful then they turn 3 defensive gems in a row like tonight with the double play after bp’s error.

    • Sorry but at this point in the season Mr. Votto has not earned his paycheck this season.

LOL this might be the dumbest statement ever on this board and that’s saying a lot.

  8. Well, keep smiling through. Just like you always do. Until the blue skies drive the clouds far away. (and here I mean that the Milwaulkee Brewers are somehow the, “clouds”, which they seem to be. Or maybe they’re Dusty Baker’s Sharpie. I don’t know. Crazy).
