Game Thread: Reds at Brewers (2013.07.10)

All I ask today from my favorite professional sports team who plays a matinee game with the Milwaukee Brewers is that they GO!

Please Reds, just Go!

  1. Defensive indifference is one of the coolest concepts in sports. What you did doesn’t count because you don’t matter.

  2. I just want to say this is a really good Reds message board. People are way more civil here than on some of the other Reds message boards I’ve been on.

  3. It’s a darn shame we didn’t get to face Cain last Thursday. He got bombed again today. By the Mets.

  4. Missed the game today. Some folks actually have to work. I have only this to say about Dusty continually running Cozart out there in the 2 hole. He is a stubborn old man who will never, ever change until someone forces his hand. I do believe he wants to win but only on his terms. Certainly not by embracing new thinking. I know people like that. The more they get criticized, the more they hunker down.

Agreed. You see some signs. Like today, bringing in Chapman after the inning started. But, then, he goes right back to his regular stuff.

  5. I have nothing to add except that I had the fortune of being AT the game in Miller Park. I’ve been in MIL for three days, and the people we’re staying with don’t even get the Brewers games! Thankfully we made it out there for the good game of the series. If the Reds would have lost with this pitching matchup, I would have felt like just folding the rest of the season. But good stuff today.

Great park, great fans, good Reds win.

  6. You know, it occurs to me that we were within 3 inches of taking 2 out of 3 this series. I still have hope that a second half surge will occur. Historically Dusty’s teams have played very well in the second half, including his Reds teams. And we are, by the way, still four games up in the wild card race. As has been said many times on this blog and others, all you gotta do is get in the playoffs. Then it’s a crapshoot. Just look at the 2011 Cardinals. For that matter, look at the 2006 Cardinals. Barely above .500 for the season and then, boom, won the the whole enchilada.

Actually, when you look at Bakerman’s teams, it seems to be about 50% of the time they do better in the second half, 50% of the time they do worse.

  7. Good win, but still a huge letdown that the Reds lost back-to-back series against the Mariners and Brewers. Ouch.

On a non-baseball related note, what happened to the comments section of this site? It was really nice when if you replied to someone, it put it under what you were replying to, and indented it so everyone knew it was a reply. Now I have to try to read all the comments and try to figure out what someone’s post was in response to and if I want to keep reading it rather than being able to. Because a reply to a reply to a reply gets rough on here without it grouping them together like previously.

  8. @ToddAlmighty: Oh yeah. I forgot to fix that. Thanks for reminding me.

During last night’s game, I had to delete some comments from an idiot. It screwed up the way the comments looked, so I turned off the threaded comments temporarily. I’ll go change it back.

  9. I’m cautiously optimistic for the 2nd half. Aside from Leake and maybe Cingrani, who has significantly over-performed to date? Even without counting Ludwick/Broxton, I think the combination of Marshall coming back and an uptick of production by Cozart/Frazier/Heisey/C’s will help the O pick it up. Plus, I wouldn’t be surprised with a huge 2nd half from Votto, and another run by Choo. Even considering the last 6 games, the glass is still half full.
