Game Thread: Reds at Rangers (2013.06.29)

I suppose the Reds have to play again tonight, don’t they?  The past few days have not been fun to watch if you are a Reds fan.  The Reds have not seemed to have much fight nor a shot at winning these games of late.  Maybe that changes today.

I am not making any guarantees today.  Well, I’ll make one.  The Reds will win again at some point this season.  Today is just as good a day as any, right!?  Discuss the game here.  And Reds, please GO!

  1. In my opinion the Reds should require that Marty does any extra innings. Brantley is not good enough to fly solo at any time, much less extra innings.

  2. this home plate umpire must be hungry for dinner. Squeezing doesn’t come close to describing how bad this has been.

  3. Walk a guy with zero home runs and now have to pitch to a guy with the most home runs on the Rangers.

  4. No, Mitch, you can get a bunt down today because you were a pitcher. Guys who play in the MLB who have been playing since they were 5 like you say did not learn how to bunt. They probably all hit .750 in little league and took off from there.

  5. Even should the horrible happen and the Rangers come back and win this.. everyone please take a deep breath and savor that hit. It felt good.

  6. I’m trying to figure out whether to credit Baker with not making him bunt twice, or blame him for thinking he ever should have bunted in the first place.

He tried to bunt Mesoraco a few games ago and it was horrible. Plus, I am assuming that if the bunt were successful, he’d have had Robinson against McClellan and then a lefty against Choo, but I don’t know the Rangers well enough…

  7. Just lame, walking the leadoff hitter and missing by miles. I’ll say it again:

    1. Chapman is miscast as a closer.

    2. Trade Chapman.

  8. Here we go again. Please get someone else up before this goes south. The rust is blatant from under use.

    • @RedForever: Really? Look, I know the consensus on this site is that Chapman is not used properly. Per fangraphs, his FIP in ’11, ’12, and ytd ’13 was 3.29, 1.55 and 2.48, respectively. With a BABIP at around 50 basis points above his average, the ’13 figures may come down a bit. Nonetheless, it may be time to consider that this is exactly the pitcher that Chapman is.

  9. The portion of the rulebook covering the strike zone has been thrown out the window tonight. No rhyme or reason.

  10. Wicked slider for the finish, great game. Errors were ugly but when you sit down and look at it.. Leake gave up 1 earned run and then the bullpen shut them down.
