  1. So I was looking at the Reds 40 man roster. Is there a reason why they have never filled Ludwick’s spot? Unless if I counted wrong, they’re at 39/40.

Also, there’s some really bad players on the 40 man roster. Guys who I can’t believe are the best choices:

-Josh Ravin is 25, has never made it above AA, and has a career 5.35 ERA, including one over 7 right now in Pensacola. What is he being kept for? He’s been crushed in pretty much every level of baseball he’s been in at one point or another.
-Kyle Lotzkar has apparently been abandoned as a starter, but even then he’s absolutely been getting lit up in AA and then got demoted to A+ where he’s continued to get lit up with an ERA of 11.88 and 8.10 respectively. He’s not had good stats since he left rookie ball.
-Pedro Villarreal got crushed when he came up to the majors for that one start, and it’s not like he’s particularly good in the minors either. He hasn’t had an ERA under 4.36 since 2009 where he spent half the year dominating the competition in rookie ball and then the other half getting bashed in A+. Currently has a 5.99 ERA in AAA.
-Jack Hannahan everyone already knows he’s a waste of a roster spot.
-Cesar Izturis everyone already knows he’s even more of a waste of a roster spot.

Then on top of those 5, there are people who’d argue Ondrusek should belong on that list too (unless you’re a fan of tall).

All in all, my point I guess is. The Reds have Hannahan/Izturis/Lutz/Partch/Parra all doing poorly. The team could obviously use some help, but the team’s 40 man roster has like 6 spots on it that are either useless or empty. Can’t they find someone who can help? Give someone young a chance in the majors rather than keep using veterans who simply aren’t good?

    • @ToddAlmighty: I would love seeing Reynolds on the roster and it baffles me that Arrendondo isn’t at least on the 40 man.

I am also bothered that no other SS/2nd is on the 40 man: Negron, Donald, or Burriss.

  2. Great pitching performances last night…

It’s great to see a night like that from Daniel Corcino. It was his longest outing of the season and the only start this year that he hasn’t walked a batter. Let’s hope he’s got it figured out and he starts to string a number of outings like that together.

Chad Rogers was just activated from the DL (had been out since June 1st or 2nd, I believe.) He was very effective in his short outing. I cannot find anything that says he left early due to injury or anything, so he must have just been on a restrictive pitch count.

Even Carlos Contreras’ outing was positive…the 6 innings was his longest outing since May 15th and the 8 strikeouts are also the most since he had 9 on the May 15th outing. For the season, Contreras has 82 K’s in 75 IP.

Drew Cisco has also had trouble going long in games recently. Yesterday’s game was his best start this month.

Ben Lively was the Reds 2013 4th round draft pick. Very nice professional debut: 3 shutout innings w/6 K’s.
