Minor League Player of the Day: Lee Hyde pitched in both games of a double header, combining for 3 shutout innings. Hyde picked up a hold with one inning of perfect relief in game 1. He earned a two inning save in pitching the final two innings of game 2.
It was a rough night in Louisville for starting pitcher Daniel Corcino. In 4.2 innings, he allowed 5 runs, 10 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3. In his first game back from suspension, Jose Arredondo allowed 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 1.2 innings. Corky Miller pitched a perfect 8th AND 9th innings to save the bullpen. It’s his second relief appearance of the year.
Emmanuel Burriss (4-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) had four of the Bats 10 hits. Denis Phipps and Kristopher Negron had two hits each.
Game 1: Pensacola 2 – Montgomery 1
Pensacola scored twice in the 6th inning on a Travis Mattair single. Mattair (1-for-2, BB, 2 RBI) was the only Blue Wahoo to reach base twice.
Josh Smith only allowed 1 unearned run over 5 innings. He allowed 5 hits, walked 4 and struck out 4. Lee Hyde and Loek Van Mil shutout the biscuits over the final two innings.
Game 2: Pensacola 6 – Montgomery 5
Theo Bowe (2-for-3, HR, SB, 2 R, 2 RBI) broke a 5-5 tie in the 6th inning with a solo homerun. Ray Chang (2-for-3, BB, R, 2 RBI) also had two hits.
Shaun Ellis allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in his 2.1 inning start. Lee Hyde shutout the biscuits for the final two innings to preserve the win. Hyde hasn’t allowed a run over his last 8 outings, a span of 9 innings, dating back to May 19th.
Carlos Contreras only allowed 1 unearned run in his 5 innings of work. He allowed 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out one.
Juan Perez was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a solo homerun and two runs scored. Juan Silva (1-for-2, BB, 3B, R, RBI) also reached base twice. Chris Berset added a solo homerun in the 7th.
Jesse Winker (.313/.419/.531) has a six game hitting streak after hitting a single, a triple and walking in four plate appearances. Joe Hudson also had two hits.
Sal Romano allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and two walks, while striking out 4 over 5 innings.
